My guess is; unlikely. Too bad because I think that would be really cool. In the states, we are too obsessed with the next big thing to appreciate the little things.

    a 14hp 125cc 4 stroke sportbike? There's barely enough room in the market place for a 250.

There would be room if we went to a graduated licensing system... Then you wouldn't have punks going out and buying a 1k for their first bike and we could get the cool bikes like europe does.

as much as I'd like to see a tiered system, it's borderline unconstitutional. Besides, even if that kinda system was instituted, making newbies buy 125's would be overkill. There's just no place for that bike in the US of A. At least not now. Maybe in a couple decades.

I wouldn't say that I am an advocate of a tiered system, I would only say that in a lot of cases, lack of maturity dictates how new riders ride, regardless of what they ride.

with 14hp i would think that it would be unsafe to ride anywhere but a quite country rode. imagine trying to merge into traffic with 14 hp being a newbie? you couldnt get out of your own way. id rather be on a 500. sure looks purdy though

Tiered license system would create market.
But yea, 125 too small for USA

Spoken like guys who bought big bikes for their first bikes.

True, Maturity plays a HUGE roll. BUT sometimes you think you are mature when your not. I was more mature than my peers when I started riding on a 250, Thankfully the bike just didn't have the amount of power to get my butt in trouble. Believe me if it had I would have...

Some of my peers had bigger bikes and got hurt or wrecked or got in trouble with the law more than I did... Just saying

A Tiered system MIGHT help with the decision making.

Regardless of opinion on above topics, I think we can all agree this thing would be a lot of fun where the goal was not outright power/ speed. Just enjoy the bike people! :

Sounds pretty good but I'm thinkin more HP related (Like the way the FAA does it where anything with +200hp requires a high performance rating) since engine layout often dictates power... one obvious example being bikes like the SV aren't really in the same class as 600 I4's.

    I was thinkin...

    0-65hp
    66-115hp
    116+hp

I purchased my first bike 5 years ago, it was a SV650s. I rode it for three seasons and decided that after riding my buddy's 636 that I wanted the inline 4 type power. I have always respected the amount of power put out by both of the motorcycles i have owned.

Granted, I probably could have started out smaller. With like a 500 or something.

    I'm rambling..........carry on

    Re: Yamaha YZF- R125

My personal feeling is a SV650 is alot of bike for MOST first bike buyers.

That said you seem to have taken mature steps....

So what is it about the inline power that is better?
