There are definitely a few guys who don't mind ponying up for the right kit, but you've been on NESR a decade longer than I and we both know that's the exception, not the rule.

There is some market for these things, apparently it just isn't big enough to justify to the bean counters though.
The bike is currently equipped with a chromoly frame, Brembo brakes, Ohlins suspension, RSD wheels, S&S exhaust, and a 2 piece carbon body; it weighs 427 lbs. It likely would cost you $20-25k. The only "high spec" component I wouldn't want to sacrifice on that list is the chromoly frame, they could axe the rest for lower spec components, charge me $15k, weigh it in a 465 lbs, and I'll be ready to write the check. I wouldn't be racing this, it would be a street queen that may see an occasional "non sportbike track day," I don't need top shelf suspension and brakes for that. Bean count the shit out of it.

    are those factory versions
No, but not far off at all. just a seat, pipe and tires plus a little tidying. I see no Buell Blast DNA in there whatsoever.

Which is ironic because racing is arguably one of the most expensive hobbies one can have.

Pete I actually just picked up a '15 Scout myself last month from MoM. Traded my Ninja in as i wasnt excited to ride it anymore. I can already feel the bug coming back to get out riding this thing on the street again once the nice weather comes around. I am very happy with it! seat is comfy, handles great. should be just what I need to be able to enjoy nice summer weekends away from the track again. I feel like we missed the obvious choice: 790duke. 105hp, 372lbs.

LOL bike came with all those option bits for $9k... couldnt pass it up seeing as new its a $14k bike! windscreen and bags pop right off and I have the rear seat and pegs to throw on. luggage rack over the rear fender needs to come off for the pass seat so thats a bit of a pain but not too bad to swap on and off if needed.

What's the opinion of the z900? No soul?

Anyone check out the new z900rs? I feel like they didn't get the proportions quite right, but looks like the seat height is higher than the Bonnie and cb1100 while still being nice and flat

Checked out the 900RS at this year's NYC motorcycle show.

They nailed it. Perfect UJM update.

Too tall for me, sadly, at 5'7". I can deal with the seat height but it's too wide. I popped a charley horse hoisting it up off the side stand.

    I loved it.

FYI... I'm 58, so this bike speaks to me, era-wise.

I agree bout the looks - they nailed it. I also checked it out in NYC. I'm 5'8" on a good day, but felt pretty comfortable on it. Plus, it felt substantially lighter than the Honda CB1100. The Honda had more chrome and looked "older", so depending on the looks you are going for the Honda may be better. The Kawasaki is significantly lighter, more modern and with a more powerful engine. I think Kawasaki got it right. The basis of the bike is the Z900 which is also a terrific bike, but different style for different audience/mod
