Kind of appeals to me --
"This 2015 BMW F800GT with 20,994 miles passes NH state inspection and runs and rides well. From the factory, it comes equipped with heated grips, an electronic suspension system, and TPMS. It's been upgraded with a Leo Vince slip on muffler and we have also replaced the front tire as well.
Designed with performance and comfort in mind, the F800 is a capable and dynamic sport bike with responsive acceleration and tight handling. It's powered by a 798cc parallel twin engine with a 6-speed transmission, that produces 90 horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 62 foot-pounds of torque at 5,800 rpm. It has a seat height of 31.5" and a dry weight of 470 lbs.
This bike has received our Premium service and detail and comes covered under a 90 day, 3,000 mile nationwide warranty."
And don't believe everything you think.

There are a TON of used 1290 ADV's out there right now. Freedom cycle in Concord has several used ones including a nice 1290 ADV-R.
I think National had three in a row. (Just checked, they have 5 on the website; 2 2015/16 'T' models, 3 2018's 2 of which are -R's.)
The 1290's historically have not sold well. It's a bit surprising given how phenomenal they are, but from some perspectives I can see why. The seat height alone is daunting (on the 15-20's), and the weight is tough to wave off when you gotta pick it up.
It seems to me that most people that want a KTM adventure bike are looking for that unicorn, and the 890R just stomped all over the 1x90's for that crown.

Saw a 2015 Explorer for sale for $7500, with hard bags, 25k miles locally. Then looked up the nightmares people are having with the valve train on that thing.
Perhaps an extended warranty would change things? (lol, kidding)
Still on the R1200GS/A or 1290SA wagon.... though I really don't think I'd need the Adventure / R model for my purposes.

My bike is basically everything you're looking for. 2015-2016 Super Adventures were all the "T" (touring) variant, and was subsequently renamed the Super Adventure T in 2017 with the introduction of the newer and fancier R and S models.
The only thing to be leery of on this model is the semi-active suspension. Some love it, some hate it. If the rear shock goes out it can get expensive, although you can order one from overseas for $450 (KTM distributors are smoking crack; they ask $1100 in the US). And the preload motor has been finicky for some people (mine was fine for 5 years until I broke it myself by trying to remove it).

I hope my experience isn't ruining it for the Tigers. It's been a solid bike with a shitty aftermarket warranty I should have never bought. The kink in the timing chain is not common and not that big of a deal to replace.
I think the 1290 is more sporty but the GS (or even the Tiger) has the benefit of the shaft drive. Commuting everyday and even long tours I've grown to enjoy the maintenance-free final drive.
The very early ones had a bulletin for head replacement which could get replaced under warranty. I'm not sure if that contributed to Kenn's valve issue or not but either way I think he was covered under manufacturer warranty. I will say after the first year or two I haven't seen many issues posted in the owner's group. 2014 and later didn't have any known issues that needed to be addressed.
Definitely agree the other brands have their own issues.

It really comes down to experience. I'd imagine Triumph, KTM and BMW are all on a pretty level playing field wrt reliability. But the fact that my KTM has 51k miles on it while my buddy's Tiger 800 started eating a quart of oil every 500 miles at 30k and left him stranded twice in that time, has pretty much put me off ever buying a Triumph as an adventure bike.
But as always YMMV.

It's one thing to need to change a drive shaft for $900 after *only* 75k miles on a GS.
Or need to replace a rear wheel bearing on one for $400 after 50k.
It's another thing to need a new engine due to cam chain guides eating shit after 30k.
Of course, it's all anecdotal and you likely hear only the complaints online vs the "been fine for 100k" users.

not sure if Ducs are OFF your list, but this seems like a deal:

On the Baja trip last year we had to leave behind a KTM. IIRC he paid someone with a pickup $100 USD to take him and the bike to the border where he had to push it across and we were able to pick him up. It made for a good story since it all worked out but I remember being thankful to ride back over the border at the time.
