What mileage are harley engines like the 103 good for?

200 miles to a tank is good. Call it 35-40 mpg maybe?
I know it is out of character for me. But I honestly don’t pay any attention.
I also ride it like I stole it a lot. I rarely leave a stoplight without winding it out.
I meant lifetime. Who’s the guy that had 250k on a monster? Would a used harley with 50k worry you?

Oh. I actually don't know. I bought mine with 4k on it.
I know a guy who just turned 100k on an ultra. He did gas, oil, brakes and tires. Not much else.
I think some of the earlier twin-cam engines had a thing with the hydraulic lifters. I am pretty sure the 103's are better there. Maybe check my math on that one.
No, I don't think 50k would bother me. Except that I would expect the bike would probably need wear items; fluids, brakes, tires, battery, etc. Nothing different than any other make/model here.
Buddy of mine has commonly put on over 50k in 4 years or so on the last few HD's he's bought. If I was interested in any of his bikes when he sold them, I wouldn't have hesitated. All were in great condition and ran perfect when he sold them.
Had the ME888 rear mounted. What a difference! It's been a while since I've had a somewhat new tire on there. But from what I can remember, these are TONS better in the handling department than the OEM Dunlops. We'll have to wait to see what kind of mileage I get out of it. Hoping to get the front on this weekend.
I even rode to work in the spotty rain today on purpose. Even on wet pavement they don't give away much from what little wet usage I've encountered this far. Big improvement...

My brother actually bought a ‘16 road glide in addition to his breakout and my friend bought a Indian chief (? Their version of the road king?) but with an aftermarket batwing which seems like a comparable Street Glide set up…
So I’ve had a little bit of seat time on both and plan to have more.

I'd say the Chief is more along the lines of the Softail/Low Rider/Street Bob. Nice ride & the 111 Thunderstroke is supposed to be an awesome mill.
The CHIEFTAIN is more along the lines of the Street Glide. The Challenger is their Road Glide counterpart.
So you're still at the kicking tires point?

I thought the same when I bought my Low Rider. That lasted less than 1000 miles though!
Interesting. The one thing I keep hearing about over & over & over again is how strong and smooth their motors are. Although over the past year or so, I've had a chance to talk to a few people with their baggers and they all have one common complaint: The electronics. One guy told me he's lost track of how many times his 2019 Chieftain has been in the shop for electrical gremlins. When I asked him what in particular was the problem, he told me, "...you name it, it's one thing after another..."
I've looked 'em over up close & personal, but can't stand some of the visual design elements and the cockpit layout is just fucked up to me.

So interesting development
My friend owns a boulevard m109r, I’ve ridden it, absolute freight train.
He fell in love with an Indian chief, with an aftermarket bat wing, and the 111 engine?
He’s selling the Indian in favor of the boulevard.
Partly because he’s had the suzook for years and is more comfortable
But also he thinks the m109r is faster.
Maybe something is wrong with his 111, but I think my 107 and his 109 are more responsive.
And I’m not anti Indian, I really like the new chieftain and challenger.

Hit the 10,000 mile mark last night. Nothing else to report really at this time.
Although I have gotten more serious in my tire kicking lately. That silver blacked-out 2021 Street Glide Special has really gotten my attention.

I was disappointed with the amount of plastic I found on the Indians and the Polaris baggers and tourers. Everything on the Harley *feels* more substantial, like it is real metal.
Although both of those brands are far, far better than any of the Japanese brands. Most of the Star line is just atrocious in this respect, even their top-line dresser/tourers.
Another thing Polaris seemed to do was cripple their bikes from the factory. They always had a "stage 1" or some such right next to it that sounded, stopped and went far better than the base model. It was to the point where I wouldn't even consider a stock/base model if I were buying. I know Harley does the "stage" accessory game too. But I don't feel their bikes need it off the showroom floor as badly.
Indian seemed a lot better here.
Then there is the Guzzi California which I really wanted to like.. but had some of the weirdest ergonomics and riding experience I've ever had.
I finally got the rear wheel off my RK the other night. I really like the axle and belt adjustment setup. I have discovered I need a 36mm socket rather badly though.
Give me another month or two to swap the tire and re-assemble. Kids are a thing, yo!

That's exactly one of my biggest turnoffs on the Chieftain. There's plastic covering everything from the rear cylinder to the saddlebags. Not at all a fan of the light fixture on the front fender either. Honestly, I don't like that on any bike. Big turnoff for me there. And then there's their batwing. I can't pinpoint what exactly it is. I dunno, it just looks gaudy to me. Almost flamboyant. The real killer for me & the batwing is the instrument dial placing. It looks so awkward to me having the tach & speedo so far apart. They almost look like insect eyes looking at you from either side of the infotainment screen. Almost like they forgot about the gauges and they were added at the last minute. There's just SO much visually that I don't like about 'em...
It took me that one tire change to get me my own 36mm socket. Your kids won't go hungry, I'm sure. Mine was less than $10.00
