    Street/road race boots

Who really likes their boots? I need to pick up a new pair before next season. I really like the fit and quality of Sidis, but I dont like the large external braces around the ankle on their higher end offerings. The Mag-1 looks nice and does not have those pieces, but $500 is a little steep.

Hard to go wrong with Sidi. Comfortable, crash well.
I have a pair of Gaerne GP-1's that I'm really digging.

    Re: Street/road race boots

My track boots are Alpinestars Supertech R's. My knockaround every day street boots are Alpinestars SMX Plus. I find them both equally comfortable on and off the bike, the SMX Plus are slightly easier to put on and take off, both available in solid and vented, but the SMX Plus are also available with waterproof Goretex.

I find that Alpinestars fit my feet better than the Sidi's - so I've got a pair of awesome condition Vortices for sale http://www.nestreetriders.com/forum/...-43-9-5-a.html

I like the gearne GP-1 as well. I had a set of cheap Astars first. they didn't hold up to crashing. The GP1's have held up nicely and are very comfy. Unlike almost every other boot they are made in Italy, NOT China, if that type of thing matters to you. The one downside is they do squeak everywhere when you walk. I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again.

    Re: Street/road race boots

ive always had A* boots. my SMX plus boots lasted quite a long time and many crashes before the zipper broke. bought the supertech Rs and love them. super light and like noel said, they wear like sneakers.
there are some drawbacks to them. the sole is a little soft so you can really feel the end of the peg in the bottom of your foot when you pivot. im also told by others that they have worn a hole in the sole due to this. they also dont initially feel very protective. they are so light and comfortable and move so easy i originally feared that they wouldnt provide enough protection. i got over it though when i came to terms with the fact that these are A* top of the line shit and that (when needed) they would do their job. i just have to trust A* knows what they are doing.
with all that said. i highly recommend them. buy the vented ones.

I'm gonna show my communist inner self: TCX S-Race. Love 'em. Crashed them what.. 4, 5 times now. Need to stop doing that. Bought them at Seacoast in Derry NH. Would do it again.

..Would also consider buying a pair of Sidis. Both great boots methinks.

    Re: Street/road race boots

A* Supertech R are definitely a wider boot. Sidi boots tend to run a regular width. If you have wide feet, you may not like the Sidi boots.

    Have said that, I've used:

Sidi Vertigo & Vertigo Rain: Felt good, length was good for my feet (EU45), width was a little lacking.
Sidi ST: Same as the Vertigo
A* Supertech R: Great in the width, a little long in the length. (EU45) I might have been better off with a EU44. Howeer, these felt a lot more comfortable than the Sidi boots did.

The A* didn't have the same wrap-around toe sliders that the Sidis have. They're also clipped on, unlike the Sidi, which was screwed on.

Sidi all day. Fuck alpinestars and their exploding zippers, and self destructing dirty boots too.

    Re: Street/road race boots

I'm quite liking my 2013 Forma Ice Flows. Broke in quickly, handled my one get off well, I wear'em all day at the track with no issues. It looks like Forma has updated their lineup for 2015, price has gone up as well. The new ones look good, clearly an update of my design rather than a whole cloth redo but I haven't worn them so no idea if they moved forwards or backwards.

    Re: Street/road race boots

another vote for Sidi's. I have Vortices for track and Tour Rains for the street. Yes, the Vortices take longer to get on/off, but really it's just once or twice a day for me and the adjustability can't be beat. Plus I like the fact I can replace wear items on them.

I dropped the coin for Mag-1's at Seacoast last season.
