    Re: V-strom build

Pete is putting on the Vstrom fall camp and ride referred to as the Peep show in stromtroopers events

You were there twice way back at Cupsuptic campground

A few of the regulars have other commitments so not the normal about 25 attendees but maybe only about 10

Now that your "BACK" wanted to let you know

got word today, it's alive, intermittent fuel pump issues were combination of faulty fuel pump relay AND tip over sensor. brakes are a bit sticky, calipers will come off and cleaned.

I pulled em both into my office but took the k-pipe out for a short 2 mile ride. It was FUCKING COLD yesterday, high temp was maybe 28°, zero wind protection on the k-pipe. I had work today, tomorrow supposed to get up to 45°, I will probaby take both of em out. They both have fresh oil changes.

The K-pipe actually starts quicker and stronger with the kick start, you dont even have the kicker halfway to the bottom of the stroke and it's running, even when it had a dead battery at the dealer, They put in a new battery, and a Battery Tender with a pigtail connected. no storage under seat, so it doesn't have quick release. It takes more cranking with the electric start. shift is n on top then 1-4 down, has a heel/toe shifter, single disk in front, drum in back

You can get an alternate shift drum that'll make it a traditional 1N234 shift pattern if you want.

    Re: V-strom build

I have already posted that my next task in the V-Strom build will be an auxiliary battery box, at the same time, I will be working on the wiring, I have enlarged a wiring diagram to plan size sheet and tacked it to the wall next to a dry erase board, I will be able to sort everything out and build the loom right there

    Re: V-strom build

found a spare front wheel for my V-strom on E-bay, it's coming my way, now with a complet set of spare wheels, I can have my winter setup (studded block knobby in front, darkside winter car tire in back) and 3 season setup with more conventional tires (right now, Mitas 07 ?)

I also got a new motor for my K-pipe, 190cc 5 speed complete with everything except exhaust. Haven't decided if I'm gonna do the swap, or have RMS do it for me.

and my workspace has gotten more crowded, building my workbench, I still have a stack of lumber on sawhorses, and a ton of new woodworking tools including a huge table saw, I think that the K-pipe will go to RMS for the motor swap

I'd be into giving you a hand with the swap if you decide to do it yourself.

I don’t think “Vstrom” and “build” is an oxymoron but it’s something.

Miles has been talking to me about doing wetlands on another project, I really wish I had my workbench finished, suspended ceiling and office outta here though. You'd think I'd have the time to get it done, now that I am mostly retired (I have 4 septics to do over the winter and at least 3 days of wetlands on a project in New Durham)

the 190cc I have is 5 speed 1N2345 Rather have it 5432N1. I flipped the shifter on my SV and liked it better than traditional. Not as easy as flipping the shifter on my V-strom, (if you know a way, let me know) and I haven't even opened and unpacked the crate that my 190 is in

    Re: V-strom build

Anyone want a Vstrom 1000? I'm going to be selling mine soon in favor of a Tiger. I think it's a 2004 or 2005, 98k miles on it, runs great, clean title. It'll be cheap. Save me the hassle of posting it for real.

    Re: V-strom build

I just stole purchased for a very reasonable price a 2004 DL1000 knowing it didn't run right.

Three months later I've exhausted all my knowledge and haven't gotten it running properly.

Without getting into symptoms, etc., does anyone know a guy?

What’s it doing? They’re pretty simple, and also well documented/supported on svrider and stromtrooper

I've not seen any reverse pattern drums unfortunately.

    Re: V-strom build

V-strom restoration/modifications are back on the front burner again, along with turning my survey office into a full blown workshop.

My Silverado, Tacoma, UXV450i, & K-pipe are all registered, & inspected. And I bought myself a new scooter, a Kymco AK550. so I have my choice, even if something is in the shop for maintenance, or god forbid, repairs, and as much as I have spent on repairs this year, I'm still better off than payments on a new vehicle
