I have been looking around for a DL-650 V-Strom for my dad. I am surprised at the complete lack of used ones on the market.
I know these are popular machines but I figured there would be some on the used market.
So where are the used Wee-Stroms?
Wait a few months till the Triumph Tiger 800 starts showing up in the US. I expect there will be plenty of used Stroms on the market then.

It is kind of like looking for a clean, low mileage Honda Civic or Fit. They are amongst the best low budget machines, and people know it. People who buy them new, tend to hang on to them for a long time. Used Wee-Stroms show up once in a while, but you have to act quickly to get one. The 1000's seem to be just a bit easier to find.
I tend to disagree about the Triumph thing, though. I suspect that Wee's will command a premium for a long time to come. The Tigers will cater to a different niche. You might find more KTM 950's popping up, though...
I dunno, I know some Strom and GS owners that might bail to the new Tiger.

It ain't bike season
I assume you have tried the usual sources
cycletrader, ebay, stromtrooper, vsri, craigslist broad search
About late April everything will appear
Adventure bikes are a niche in the market compared to sprtbikes & cruisers
nowhere near as many are imported, and generally adventure bike riders keep their bikes longer, imho
part of the problem is that suzuki hasn't brought a new V-strom into the US since 09
gimme the cake to buy a new Super Tenre and all the farkles I want and I'll sell ya my Vee

They are popular. I bought my 05 used (barely - 93 miles) for $5,000, put 8,000 miles on it, and sold it for my asking price of $4,000 in one day from an ad on Advrider.
If you don't mind the extra weight, rougher weight and lower MPG, DL1000's seem to sell for about the same price used as DL650's, and hang on the market for a lot longer.
Good for you, but most DL650 owners I know will want to see them ridden for a season or two to make sure there aren't any issues.
The most competitive bike in the world is the one you can't buy. There's a word for products like that in the software world: vaporware. All the initial reviews are great, but seriously, when was the last time you saw a bad review of a new motorcycle anywhere?
