    Stupidity Owns me

Got on the bike today, kicked back the kickstand and instantly realized I had forgotten something and without even thinking about it I half kicked the kickstand into place and popped off the bike. Well, funny thing is the kick stand needs to be down all the way to work!?

Anyway, the bike didn't really fall so much as I caught it, but couldn't stop it so it was more gradually put to the ground than dropped. Luckily there appears to be no damage, that fairing was scratched up anyway when the previous owner did the same thing.

For as dumb as it is, completely demoralizing way to start the day.. probably because its the first time I've ever dropped a bike that way.

At least it sounds like you were home and not in front of a crowd... like at a gas station, pulled off the side of the road talking to friends, or at a bike gathering.

I dropped my GSX-R600 the same way (eased it to the ground). No damage at all until I stood it back up and the windscreen caught under my jacket and a corner snapped off. That'll ruin your day ...

maybe if he's done it in front of people he wouldn't have posted it on the internet

I would consider that laying a bike down but not crashing

I remember the very first time I took my bike for a ride and then when the ride was over I stopped and put the kickstand down, but it didnt go all the way.

So as I got off, the bike went with me. Luckly I was able to save it and prevented a lay down.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. It def would have sucked in front of a bike crowd. "Walk with tail in between legs"

I don't have a kickstand story, but one just as dumb...

The first bike I got without a gear indicator (lights as to what gear you're in) I was at a gas station. Normally I out the bike in neutral when I got off it. This time I didn't.

I started the bike while off to the side of it. Since it waqs a saftey feature to have the clutch lever pulled in to start it, I wasn't aware of what was going to happen next.

I let the clutch out, while in 1st gear, and not on the bike. It shot forward and landed on its side, in front of at least a dozen people.

I broke off a turn signal. But broke my ego much more than that.

Interesting. If I leave my bike in gear, kickstand down, pull in clutch, start bike, let out clutch, the bike stalls.

    What bike was this?

    Long time ago......

    1982 Suzuki GS450L cruiser.

My CBR stalls if the kickstand is down and I put it in gear too. I don't even have to let the clutch out. The second it clicks into gear, it stalls.

I know a girl that on maybe her first or second ride on her brand new bike, got a bee in her jacket and pulled over on the side of the road and didn't even think about the kickstand. Bike fell down ever so gently and not a single nick on it.

    Shit happens.

I know a guy who dropped his girlfriends bike because the kickstand wasn't all the way down at a restaurant.

As they walked away all you heard was clunk!

I helped an old guy from Montreal pick up his brand new(225 miles on the odometer) Hardley Ableson last fall................ Turns out for the last 25 years and many hundred thousand miles, he had ridden with a side car and forgot that motorcycles have a kickstand. He had got about 10' from it before it hit the ground.....

    WTF? Damn Nuns.

I too have my kickstand story. But slightly diffrent. I got my shoelace stuck around the stand as I was kicking it up. no being in motion I almost lost it and fell on my side but I was smart enough to lean the other side and use my other foot to catch myself. Sucks knowing you're about to crack up the whip.

oh wait.. shit I forgot that I did almost drop it from forgeting to put the kickstand down in parking lot. I caught it and was able to upright the bike but my tail scratched on someones tailpipe leaving a nice memory scratch.
