It's definately too early... actually on my way down to Cranston, RI on Tues. to pick up my new bike, rt. 10 on the opposite side was shut down and there was a ton of traffic. As I approached, I saw a suv all banged up, then a really smashed up cruiser on the ground a few feet behind it, and a descent amount of blood. I heard later that night the guy on the cruiser died, and was not wearing a lid. Wasn't a very nice scene to see while on the way to purchase a bike

I know that we ALL try to be careful all the time but I know that sometimes it is easy to forget how oblivious the cage drivers are around us.

I agree that it is easy to forget about cagers, but if you're TRYING to be aware of other vehicles for long enough, it becomes so second nature that you don't even realize it. Also have to look out for those on and off ramps guys, they're fun due to the long sweeping curves, but also get very slick, and especially this time of year with the sand and salt.

I have sympathy, but very little. It's a high price to pay for the stupidity.

This one doesn't sound like it has anything to do with cages or sand, just bad riding.

He hit the *inside* curb on the ramp. It's not like he low-sided on sand or something. Sounds like all he needed to do was gas it a little or pick the bike up.

yeah I read that the guy on the bike rear ended the SUV

You know depsite it being dumb not having a helmet.
Most times when going at speed or when a cager is involved, its
the neck or spine injury that's going to kill you.

No helmet is going to help much if you going fast and hit
a car or guard rail.

That said, I'm not sure how those folks in NH do it
without a helmet. I feel naked without mine.
Plus who wants to be blinged with bugs and pebbles in
the face.

I live in NH and wear my helmet all the time. I have seen too close calls not to wear a helmet. I don't understand the guys that latch their helmet to their bikes..........what is the point of a helmet?

The crash in RI....my friend told me she was driving on Rte 10 in opposite direction, and saw the crash scene, the guy had a jacket over is head, i.e. someone put it there and he appeared motionless.

I am not sure on the situation beyond this, BUT that is a horrendously unsafe road. The large foreign population who lives local to Route 10 employs some "unique" driving techniques which combined with the design of the road make it very unsafe. Lots of traffic on Cranston St, Union Ave exits with major variance in merge speed vs. traffic speed. Also a lot of older cars that are leaking fluids of all types all over the ramps, and at the end of the road where it backs up by 95 merge downtown.

That said I would not be surpised if he rear ended someone who pulled out in front of him into traffic.

I don't get the no helmet thing down here, I really don't.

Put safety first out there guys. Always think about everything you do and make sure you keep staying alive #1. As silly as it sounds I see too many people doing stupid things far too often...

I drove by the accident scene on the oppposite side as well, but the guy had been taken away already. It didn't look pretty though.
