    sumo conversion...worth it?

stopped at a KTM dealer the other day and told the guy i was looking for a sumo but he told me that KTM doesnt import sumos to the US anymore, closest he had was the 990. im looking for a 690/640 single. the did have a 690 dirt bike with lights (enduro? maybe a dualsport...i cant remember if it had blinkers). would it be worth it to buy it and do the the conversion? what are we talking? $1500-2000 for the changeover?

    Re: sumo conversion...worth it?

It depends if you plan to use the bike for the track or street. I bought a KTM this fall with intention to convert it for street and track use and when I added it all up I was over $5k.
    Wheels and tires -$1000 - 1500
    Brakes - up to $1500
    Motor build - $1200- $2000
    Suspension - $1000 - $2000

With the 690 you can probably go without a motor build from what I understand they are a little more durable. If you only want it for the street you can just throw some wheels on it and call it good.

This is cheaper than converting your own without buying the bike.

right, but there are 2 different models. the smc is the dirtbike with street tires and lights. the supermoto came was also dirtbike-like but it had the beak front headlight/fender and the dual truck exhaust. i actually prefer the looks of it it compared to the smc

not street legal. im also trying to avoid a 450. i would like it it to be bigger displacement and something that is actually designed to be ridden on the street as opposed to some customer built race tard. the LC4s are bulletproof and easy to work on.

lol reminds me of beetlejuice when the guy stretches his face out. its got a bigger gas tank than the smc and allows for a little more wind protection because you can mount a small flyscreen

Not even a little interested. They are cool bikes, but I want a single. If I wanted a twin I would get the 990 sm.
