    Talking New Suzuki.....

I've been such a good boy ( ) that I decided to buy myself a new bike.

I've wanted one of those DRZ400SM thingies since they first came out. Initially, I was persuaded not to because everybody says they are underpowered. But after doing some research, I've found that a little bit of tweaking unleashes a good amount of power, and the price of building a motard set up the way this one is about $2000 higher than the MSRP of one of these bikes.

So I applied for the stupid Suzuki Credit Card (they gave me $15,000....maybe I should buy a 'Busa ), and I'm all set....but the stupid dealership wont come off from MSRP on this thing.

Anybody know of a good Suzuki dealership where they're a little more willing to deal?

    Not in VT

but I would get a price from

    Columbia Motorsports in Willimantic, CT

You should be able to get 5500 to 5600 without BS add ons.

If your out of the area you should get the best price if you trailer it away.

"I did not leave my local dealer; they left me"

If they have to trade from another dealership then they can not give you the best price.

    After break in
    Remove airbox snorkles
get the needle from the 400 suzuki quad
    150 Main jet

my regular s will do 90 wfo

    Thanks for the info.

I've heard that a pipe and carb jet makes them move along rather well.

Cool... I guess Now do the logical thing and spend the $2k you saved on that thing and go buy yourself some dirt gear and see where the real fun is
Man, and you live in one of the easiest states in the country to convert dirtbikes to streetbikes in

Anyway, congrats on the new ride

    New Suzuki.....

Same thing happened to me last fall when I was looking for a SV650S. I went 3 times to the local dealer in Nashua and got quoted some ridiculous price ... a grand over MSRP and this was in September at the end of the model year.

Last time I went, I got home so pissed that I started calling every dealer in the book. Plaistow Powersports picked up and gave me a good deal. I then bought a bunch of gear and other stuff from them.

I hate dealing with dickwads that make me feel like I am doing them a favor by buying there.

They then had the nerve to ask me to have my service done there. You know, if I did not have a problem traveling 45 miles to go buy a bike, I am not going to have a problem traveling 45 miles to service my bike (I do most of the minor maintainence stuff, they will do the valve adjustments and complex stuff.)

Plaistow Powersports will now be the FIRST place I will go when I need new wheels. I don't have a problem recommending them to anyone else either.

    It's actually in Columbia, Ct

This place will get ALL my Yamaha business in the future, Scott runs the most stand up, no BS dealer I've ever delt with If he doesn't have what you're looking for, he'll do whatever it takes to get it for you. He's a volume dealer so the prices are good... which is why he sold the most Suzuki's of any dealer in the USA in 2005, also the largest volume dealer in the northeast

Oh, thats already in the works.

I just needs to figure out how to adapt new wheels for this thing, so I can have a set for dirt riding. Apparently, the wheels are 17 in, and you cant get dirt tires in that size?

So I have to buy new hubs specifically for this bike, then buy regular DRZ wheels....the only catch is that the DRZSM has a different swingarm, and so there might be a clearance issue?

Either way, its *going* to get some knobbies on different rims, with a different caliper and rotor, etc.

$5499 advertised price at Troy City Garage in Troy NY. Should be closer than a CT run. I bought my bike from them. Very easy to deal with.

There was a Harley Suzuki Dealer in Groton, CT

I showed up with my Van and my checkbook ready to walk out with a brand new drz400s they had in stock

I waited a litteral 20 minutes while the hairy weasel salesman talked to a couple about

    Ta Da Ta da Da

The merits of different length Jacket fringe !!

    Never acknowledged my being there

    I left

They are no longer a Suzy dealer anyway

    Noice!
    Congrats on the new ride...
Definitely get a whole dirt wheel/rotor/chainring setup...
Even if they did make 17" dirty tires you wouldn't want them... The rims are way too wide, but the main reason IMHO is that it's easy enough to bury a 21" front wheel in a rock garden and send yourself over the bars. A 17" would roll over even less stuff, so you'd be introducing your upper triple clamp to your crotch all day long.

    New Suzuki.....

I took the new bike for a ride last night. If it ever gets nice out, I'll post up some pics.

I rode it directly up Rt. 17 here in VT, it was a blast. Has the whole motard handling thing....super light, with awesome brakes, and quirky (but always there) power.

I cant wait to do a trackday with this beast.

Now I just have to figre out the whole puzzle of how I adapt some dirt wheels on to this thing.
