Re: ? for you SV Racers

I can't speak for the actual racing part cause this will be my first year, but I kept going back and forth between the gens when I was looking....I went with a second due to the fact it's fuel injected. Carbs and I don't get along.

Yes, you can put a gxsr front on them. Mine has the 04-05....

From what I found in my searches:
1st gen - carbed, stronger frame, stronger motor (slightly less hp #'s), a little cheaper

2nd gen - FI, little more flex in the frame, better forks

FYI - 03 was the first year of the FI...It also has some parts that are 03 specific. I stayed away from that one for that reason.....

    Gen 1 is great.
Send the front end to GMD and Pensky for the rear.

yes its pretty common to run the GSXR Front end, People have gotten good results doing the emultors in the stock forks if you buy a "race bike" odds are the front will be done I woud run the SV front first before doing any "Global" changes

I have 750 forks on mine.
now, while it wasnt a cheap mod, it was simple to do and was worth every penny. the stock gsxr forks are worlds bettef than sv forks. have gmd do them and they only get better.

Re: ? for you SV Racers

I've got a 2nd gen with Ohlins shock & worked (springs & emulators) stock forks to keep it LWSS legal.
Other than that, just the standard bolt-ons (woodcraft bits, PCIII, pipe, SS lines etc, nothing major) and a stock motor.

That bike was good enough for 1:18's and 5th place in the 09 LRRS LWSB Championship.

Supposedly the 1st gen handles a little better, but the difference is marginal at best.

I say don't be picky. I just went with what was readily available & what I could find the best deal on.

If racing SS is truely that important to you than keep the stock forks and just rework them, because SS is the only class youll need them in.
in LWSB, GTL, LWGP, Thunderbike, and Supertwins (and even LWF40) you can run pretty much any mod you want...including slicks.
so thr real question is... is losing the ability to race in LWSS worth getting better suspension performance (IMO)?

Word. I used the same line of thinking, I just came to a slightly different conclusion.... reason being, I think the biggest difference between competitive LWSS times and competitive LWSB times is motor work.

If I could afford to, I'd built a motor, go the GSXR front end & slicks route and skip LWSS, but for now, I think my LWSS bike is plenty competitive as it sits, both in LWSS as well as the other LWSB bikes running stock motors.
