I honestly never gave a shit but now i am interested because of this thread...
you get a cookie, if your right that is, witch i think you are.:D
Sweat band around the brake resovoir???
I said it before him, I want that cookie.
Sweat band around the brake resovoir???
I don't know the answer, but I don't think I could be the sun because the fluid up there is the reserve and is not really used. The fluid that is used is in the pistons and the lines and it hardly mixes and gets no sun. Also, if that were the case you would just paint the container or use AL or black nylon, which would eliminate the possibility of the sweat band falling into the fans or something else.

This is funny shit. I wonder if anyone here really knows the answer. it's as simple as can be, too. Think outside the box.

I'm going to say that racers corner at high speeds and some of the fluid can leak and it's not a nice fluid. Or that you can crash and you need to keep it contained.
As for heat, and brake fluid that can't handle at least 350 degress I don't want anything to do with considering that the whole point of brake systems is to disipate heat.
Other than that I havn't got a clue and would love to know.

Do they need the sweat band for something else and they just keep it there, like to wipe the faceshield?

We have a winner!
It's to soak up any leaked fluid. If you have a good brake system (serious race calipers and master cylinder, crazy thin brake lines) the amount of fluid moved is tiny, but the pressure is incredibly high, as is the heat. Drops of brake fluid will spit out and get on your windshield and tach. This can melt the plastic. The reservoir sock is to soak up the spit out fluid. Also, the sock will absorb almost all the brake fluid in the reservoir in the event of a crash compromising the reservoir. Saves cleanup on the track surface (and the bike's paintwork).
The whole sunlight thing is a wives tale. Brake fluid is changed every race weekend. No time for sunlight to have any effect on the fluid at all.
