    Tail Tidy

Killed two birds with one stone today
I was very happy with the Tail Tidy from Evotech that I had on my last R1 so I gave them a shot at the new R1. While searching their site, I found a kit for the SXV. I hadn't decided what to do with the tail of the SXV until I saw this one, it's exactly what I had in mind

    SXV Tail Tidy

And the one for the R1...

    09 R1

Was also looking at slip-ons for the R1...soooo nice looking but so much $$$

Jesus, is that a torque curve or a map of the Rockies? You'd think that curve would be... well... a CURVE.

Very impressive torque increase at 6k though... damn.

Yeah, I don't see me spending that kinda coin for pipes. I'd bet within a month or 2, I'll find something used on the cheap from ebay or the R1 forum

I don't like the Graves at all. Most of the people on the R1 forum don't either. It doesn't fit the tail well IMO. If you look at it it's 2" fromt the tail in the back and 1" at the back. Myself I ordered the Leo Vince Evo II Carbon/Carbon slip ons. $860

Are there any pictures looking at it from the rear? I can't tell with the pictures on their site. The pictures from the Graves site, the cans seem to flow good with the tail section IMO.
Looks and quality are number one on my list, being half poser and half squid, I don't care about the power gains

I know it sucks having the plate hanging off that SXV tail section, but I don't feel like getting stopped and ticketed on it. I got one warning last year for my KTM plate and it was in the factory location, though it is on a bit of an angle.

How is the SXV treating you so far?

i'm going to push my luck as i always do but if i get stopped again, i gotta move it

bike has been great so far, only have a little over 150mi on it now but its been running like a top, no odd stuff except for lots of loose bolts. took a ride over to Wagner last week and realized they stock the Motorex 10W60 and 75W90 the bike needs so i'll be doing a fluid change this week hopefully.

BUT... i'm starting to wonder how i check on motor replacement by serial numbers or VIN, i keep reading over and over about dealers who got the '07 motor yanked for an '08 just based on bike numbers alone rather than waiting for it to implode. Seacoast hasn't been a help on this at all, still cant even find out what updates were done to the bike... if any.

Mines coming up on 400 miles. I need to check or change the oil for 2 reasons. First, as odd as it sounds, it's blowing little white bubbles out of the oil filter cover? I haven't had a chance to look into it. Second, it did use some oil while down at VIR and I had to add about 1/4 of a quart to it.

As for the updates, I know the new map and the oil filter cover were updated on mine...the rest, I have no idea. Mine was also not fully derestricted as said, the air baffle was still in the airbox.
I've also had one of the engine side cover bolts losen up.

I could be wrong but I thought I read if your bike has the updated 08 motor, it'll have a different style starter motor and the starter speed knob (the yellow button on the throttle) is on the air box.

Hmm, little white bubbles... is your coolant staying at the same level?

Yes, most will use a bit of oil fairly quickly. This is one of the reasons they're not good street bikes, oil level can go down over long extended rides which can be an issue if you dont have any to top off.

Same here, def new derestricted map and updated oil filter cover but the rest, who knows. Which baffle in the airbox are you talking about? The one that's semi-permanently attached at the front of the airbox stays in, its a rain shield to defect water to the drain. also holds the air filter in place. but you may be talking about another baffle. i'm about to throw on an AF1 single-stage foam filter so I'll know better what the internals look like on mine after that.

Yes, you're correct that the newer motors dont use the 'choke' on the handlebar but have a knob on the right-side of the airbox.

I know my motor is '07, its got orange sealant and the old 'choke', but i've heard plenty of stories about '07 bikes getting '08's without any fuss or anything broken yet. I think I will try to contact Aprilia directly or raise the question for a FORTH time with Seacoast. bike is fine, i just want to avoid any potential nasty situations if something shits the bed while far away.

btw... did you hear Seacoast may be picking up 10+ SXVs to blow out? my neighbor was in touch with them but got scared away from the bike due do maintenance. he ended up grabbing a tricked out XR650R with almost every mod you can think of. shit does that thing sound GOOOOD!

    Re: Tail Tidy

I didn't hear about any SXV's coming to seacoast? Any idea what year and the price? Seems the going rate for a 08 leftover is $6,995...and there was always a 2k price difference from the 07-08 so if they are 07's, they should be in the $4,995 range

If my SXV shits the bed far away, I'm calling the Aprilia road side assistance, come get it and call me when it's fixxed.

No loss in coolant level yet. It's had a very minor oil seep from the filter cover from day one, I'm "guessing/hoping" it's because I rode it in the rain at VIR and the surface water mixxed with the oil residue. I may just go lay the bike on it's side now and pull the filter cover to investigate.

    Re: Tail Tidy

i'll check with my neighbor again, he was in touch with John for a while. this was just last week or the week before but i dont remember what bikes were coming in.

keep me posted on the bubbles, curious whats up with that. ive only had one small burp of oil into the airbox and down the drain tube. very tiny bit. never did it again, even after a good 80mi shakedown.
