long-term ownership opinions on KTM 690 Enduro R wanted

Just what it says on the tin; I'd love to hear how this bike holds up as a long-term street ride.

While I can't give you an Enduro specific opinion, as far as the 690 engine goes I've got 14k on my 07 SM with nothing other than 2.5-3k oil/filter changes and 2 valve inspections (both in spec) as far as maint. With the SM gearing I get 50-55MPG pretty much regardless of riding style and can cruise at 85-90 no problem with a top speed of about 110.

if your not dead set on the Enduro model I may be looking to sell my SM

Paul has pretty extensive experience with that motor, as does Oxx.
    I had a previous gen lc4 that I wish I never sold.

I'm not at all against an SM (would likely put SM wheels and tires on an Enduro R) but one of the justifications for upgrading from a CRF250L would be ABS. Other bikes in the running are Duke 690, Husky 701, Street Triple RS, Hypermotard (well into $elling the R6 territory) there.

The 690 is as bulletproof as you can get. I FLOGGED mine for 5 years/15k miles almost exlusively at redline and routinely topping out 6th gear. The bike never needed more than oil changes.

The Hypermotord 821 has almost double the power and feels more nimble... It is also bulletproof. I would say the hyper is a better longterm street ride only because it is more versatile.

I blew out the seal on the clutch master cylinder repeatedly, and had a gas cap leak issue. Other than that, no issues whatsoever. That was on the SMC though, dunno whats different otherwise.

I love those articles despite the insane budget and use cases, because they tend to cover a lot of cheap "stitch in time" stuff too. Vibration-sensitive and electrical things where the limiting factor is usually just willingness to touch anything internal whatsoever.

The Husky 701 is supposedly more street friendly than the 690. It's got a slightly reworked engine and a slipper clutch to reduce vibes, it's got a bigger fuel tank and it's a tad lighter.
