Just based on power I'd go with the bandit. Much better street bike.

While the high end is where things get real interesting on the FZ1, the low and mid range are both great with a few tweaks. The FZ1 is happy to dawdle around town at low rpms, or be flogged like a superbike on back roads. It's really versatile.

Even for the OP's intended use?

Will the '12 Ninja ABS hit dealers this month?

Do bike dealers want to move inventory before year-end?

Well, getting closer to buying one of these. My left knee is being treated but I'm never going to have the range of motion I did due to degeneration in the knee, but it's not so far gone I need a replacement. So the "Gentleman's Sport bike" class is about as sporty as I can get.

I'd like to get one on order so I can do suspension and other mods before the good riding season starts. So for once I'm going to rely on reviews and a "test-sitting" in lieu of a test ride.

Well, that was interesting. Took a drive over to Riverside and sat on the Ninja 1000, a Tiger 800, and a Multistrada 1200.

Multistrada has more power, lighter weight, and traction control compared to the Ninja. I'm still pretty skeptical of Ducati reliability, but it would be a new bike with warranty.

A wet multi us lighter? I would've thought it was the other way around.

Multistrada wet weight 485, Ninja 1000 ABS 509. Yours truly should lose that extra 24 lbs either way....

I wonder if a used Honda VFR800 shows on your radar? Available ABS.

    But this, just ouch:
I look at that and the torque curve and say Sea Bass all the way. More torque where you use it and 10 more HP through most of the usable RPM range.

the ninja 1000 is still my desktop image (most purchases become my desktop image first)

I would like the Ninja 10r, but I don't think my back will let that happen.

So my vote is for the Ninja 1000! (so I can test it at the track)

Sorry this is my first responce on these forums and for reviving an old thread, but you never stated whether you made a decision or not. Ive been looking to get a n1k for almost a year now, and should be snagging one within a couple months. I can say the moment i sat on it i had a huge smile on my face. Power everywhere, extremely comfy ergos and just a blast to ride. On other forums im on theres plentys of guys in their 50s and 60s saying this is the best bike they ever owned, it can do everything, track days included. Tour for hours, and has all the power one would need. A sargent seat seems to be a must mod though, or some type of seat. I had no complaints when i took a test ride on one for an hour and a half with my gf. She also said it was comfy for her on the back and she could see herself going on trips with it. (i would be getting her a corbin seat though for a little extra cushion).

Also if your looking at dyno charts, i know any bike can be modded but an akro full exhaust adds about 16-18hp at the wheel and 8-10 torque. This is pretty much across the board from everyone ive seen. If you cant find a test ride up in MA, i know its a bit of a drive but new haven powersports in new haven CT has a demo model. I took it out for 90 min with my gf, i also took it out at americade at the kawi demo which is when i fell in love with it.

I think the OP wound up getting a lightly used Triumph Tiger 1050.
