    Test riding a Ninja 1000

I'm thinking about getting a Ninja 1000 ABS to replace my SV650 as a track/sport bike.

Of course, I decided long after there were any manufacturer ride programs.

Is it possible to get a test ride anywhere?

My left knee has limited range of motion in flexion so I want to make sure it will work for me. The N1000 is appealing because it's got a little more room to start with than the SV.

Re: Test riding a Ninja 1000

Not sure which dealers WILL allow test rides, but I will tell you that Performance Cycles in Shrewsbury WILL NOT.

When I was shopping for my Daytona, I walked in ready to sign papers and they still would not allow a test ride. Called Second Wind that day, went up, they allowed me to test ride any model I wanted, before they knew I was ready to buy.

I know how much of a risk it is to allow just anyone to take a bike for a test ride, but it amazes me that dealerships expect customers to make such a large purchase without taking it for a spin.

Call Souhegan Valley Motorsports or PM "mullinsvm" (Scott Mullin, fellow LRRS racer. He works there) and see if they've got any they'll let you check out & take for a ride.

Yep, Scotty brought one to a few of our trackdays this year... I'll try and bend his arm to continue the trend next year, but perhaps he can chime in himself.

If you are able to find one to test ride (or if Scotty chimes in) please write up a review. I've been scoping these out as well. Playing with the idea of selling the R6 for one.

I took Scott mullins out for a few sessions. The bike was Very Easy to ride, Power Delivery was very Smooth, Suspension with no adjustments was amazing. The best bike i have ever used at Loudon.

If you're looking at the Ninja 1000 you should give my FZ1 a shot. You're welcome to take it for a spin whenever. I should have it out for another few weeks.

Thanks. That bike hadn't been on my radar but it actually looks like it should be!

FZ-1 is a great idea for what you describe as wants.

If I were in the market for a new I4 street bike, the FZ1 would be at or near the top of my list.

My FZ1 also has all the "must do" mods done, making it even better. Plus the service intervals on the FZ1 are far less frequent than most bikes. PM me if you want to ride it...

i sat on a ninja 1000 and fell in love. i'd have one if i could afford it. the fz1 is not geared right. lower gears would help allot. i'm looking for one myself. resale value is cheap for some reason.

It depends on what you're looking to do with the bike. Are you going to be racing the thing around at high RPM or farting around (even spiritedly - if that makes sense) touring 2-up in low RPMs?
IMO the high-powered high-revving motors are more suited to a sportbike position anyway.

    Check out the torque graph..

You have it right. All these motors are detuned from sport bikes. The bench racers obsess over dyno charts, then wind up with a bike they can't ride for more than 45 minutes at a stretch.
