    Question The Best Ever

'Valentino the tireless stalker, sizing up arch rival Max Biaggi, "in race after race, Rossi shadows his leading competitor, frazzled from maximum effoert, his tires now past thier best, accepts second place. Harder men push on, and often fail" '

I think Rossi is awesome, and a grat showman, but is he the best roadracer ever????

the cover of cycle world says 'Move over Hailwood, Ago, King Kenny, Rainey, Lawson , Gardner, Doohan, etc., Valentino Rossi is the best roadracer the WORLD has ever seen.'

I don't know a whole lot about the history of GP but, if you watch the documentary Faster, it makes a good argument for Rossi. He is one of only 2 people (I think) that has won the world championship on two different bikes in consecutive years. That goes to show the rider is a HUGE part of the equation... he's got the goods!

When Rossi wins both the 250 and 500 Championship in the same season, he'll get my vote.

You do have to give a lot of credit to the rider in racing. Bostrom keeping up with the RC51's when they first came out on his super outdated and underpowered ZX-7 was a lot of fun to watch........

This is true, but, last year he did next to nothing on the Ducati 999. I'm really surprised that he was retained by Ducati for the 2005 season. And, it will be interesting to see how Bostrom does compared to his new teammate, Neil Hodgson. The good news for Bostrom is that the team will now be on Dunlops, I think he had a real problem with the Michelins. I'm sure that Hodgson will have no problem with the the Ducati and Dunlop tires as this was the same combination that he rode to the BSB championship title.

All the roadracing championships should be very interesting in 2005. I believe that Colin Edwards will do very well on the factory Yamaha as teammate to Rossi, they will definitely push each other pretty hard. Nicky Hayden needs to step up his game in '05 and I'm sure he will with Biaggi as his teammate.

World Superbike should be fun to watch, again, in '05 as there will be much more participation from manufacturers other than Ducati.

    Yes, I LOVE watching roadracing!!!!!!!!!!

Did I mention that I will be in Laguna Seca for the return of MotoGP to the USA???? I WILL have a pit pass and take lots of pics of the best roadracers, IN THE WORLD!!!!!

This is true, seems like he sort of dropped off the map. I hope its just a familiarity thing; a Duc 999 is a very different bike than a ZX-7. He really knew how to ride the 7 fast.

It was more of a Michelin / Dunlop issue than a twin vs four issue. They are two tires with very different characterisitcs. Bostrom never had enough confidence in the front tire compared to what he grew up on - Dunlops.

And Hodgsen was a Michelin rider for years. Those tires won all those WSB and 500/Moto GP titles for a reason. I'm very curious to see what he will do on an inferior tire like the Dunlop.

And who put Wayne Gardner on that list??? That guy cried like a bitch whenever everything wasn't perfect.

And just why isn't the last US 500cc champ on that list? Have we forgotten Schwantz already?

And what about Doug Polen or Freddie Merkel? Both AMA and WSB Champs?

Haga???? And what has he won again? Did he even do All-Japan?

And if we talk road racer - pure road racer and not just short circuit - where is Joey Dunlop or Steve Hislop? Or a man he was champion on both - Carl "no dental work for me thank you" Fogarty?

Even Ru$$ell can get a nod for AMA and WSB consideration.

Or guys who were Champs in both 125 and 250 - Cadalora, Caparossi, Biaggi.......

Rossi is the best today. The best ever? There are a lot of variables to take into account before making this proclamation.

No one old enough to remember either Agostini or Hailwood winning every race out of 38 or more ?

Or John Surtee's? Both a GP AND F1 World Champ.

Surtees is the only man to win World titles on both two and four wheels.
