Are we talking CRF250L vs WR250R? At ~25hp I'm not sure my WR has buckets of power compared to anything

but for comparison's sake, on my Z125 I also clutch and pull. My point was it takes some effort but gearing/tuning may help.

I've ridden the WR and the Rally. The WR wheelies fine. I also wheelie my Honda Monkey and had a Grom prior that I could balance point it for days. Crank and Yank = YES
The Honda Rally crank and yank= no. I actually thought I would break the thing trying. I mean I can wheelie a Harley bagger.... That Rally... NOPE...

Thanks, I'm still piecing together all the video from the trip, I just posted a teaser from the lakebed. I'm chained to a desk M-F, so no go on the ride tonight but would love to get out there. Speaking of chains, Baja finally finished mine off so I'll need to get that replaced before I ride the WR again.

I've never ridden a Rally, that sucks you can't hoon it.

Matter of fact I found it really difficult to get the front tire off the ground using all my wheelie efforts. I guess its the wrong bike for that. It does look like a great explorer bike for the Jeep trails. I know that the stock suspension was a damp sponge without any damping. I bet the Ohlins helps carry the weight a lot better than the stock setup. Have you taken it off road yet?
It is definitely underpowered, although for the type of riding I do with it it's not a huge deal. It's primarily a mini adventure bike for me.

I did take it offroad when I first bought it, while it still had the OEM suspension. All I have to compare it to is my KTM which is a tank, so my experience on the Honda is that it's so easy to maneuver around the trail, it's a dream in the technical stuff compared to my KTM. That said, the one chance I got to jump over a water bar, I bottom the rear shock out pretty good. It is NOT up to hard and fast riding at all off the showroom floor; it's basically an entry level dual sport for beginner riders and people who might float away in a strong breeze.

My buddy has a WR250R that I took for a full day's ride last year. The power differential is not massively noticeable to me, the WR still struggled to do 65mph on a flat road, and it was no KTM on acceleration. The weight is really the biggest differentiator, especially with the Rally. (~340lb).

You can hoon it a little. Over abrupt crests the front end comes up pretty easily with a quick bounce. It won't maintain a wheelie, though. It has a huge and heavy cockpit support, so all that weight makes it pretty tame.

That's not really why I bought it though. I use it as more of a tractor for technical class 4/6 roads. That it does pretty well.

Haven’t tried them yet, but they look sweet. Reviews are very good for the rear, I guess the front weaves all over the place, that is why I went with the mt21 front

What came stock on the 890? Not aggressive enough?

A for WR250R vs the Honda 250, look at their respective Dyno curves. I have ridden both and I own a stage 1 modified (pipe/header/ejk) CRF250M. The Honda makes as much if not more power under 6k rpm and then the Yamaha takes off in terms of power. The honda is geared with a street bias. The suspension on the WR is much better for dirt riding. The weight difference is not noticeable on my 2014 Honda (maybe exhaust and header makes it about the same weight? Come to think of it, the WR I rode also had an FMF exhaust). Maybe because the Yamaha is significantly taller the weight difference cannot be felts. Honda has come out with the CRF300L/Rally which sheds weight and improves power, so both remedied. For what it is, the CRF300Rally has no competition in the US. The KTM390ADV is different in a number of ways but mostly a step up in weight, power, suspension but not cost

They were very wide and tubeless. Wanted stronger wheels with tubes, at least in the front, for easier trail side repairs

Can I ask what the wheel-set set you back $$?
I am quite envious of that setup right now.

I got about 5500 miles on a MotoZ Tractionator Adventure. I probably could have gotten another 2k miles if I wanted to ride on very shallow knobs. It had great offroad manners, ok on road manners (I could easily get it sideways on the KTM in a corner). The biggest downside is that it howls loudly at speeds above ~50mph, so bad I had to wear earplugs just to hear myself think.

I can't imagine the wheels sound could be any louder than the horrible wind noise and buffetting on the 890. I wear earplugs anyway, but the wind protection of the 890 is the only downside I have seen thus far

It is. It's like a banshee howling, and it pierces your soul.

Was out for the first time this year on 1290. Noticed some surging, like it was starving of fuel. Ordered fuel filters, as they are pretty suspect on some of these bikes. Hopefully that's it.

A lot of guys have been doing a single rotor conversion. I would be afraid to not have enough braking power on the street. Plus, pretty sure at my level of riding I wouldn't notice much anyway.

This is the only pic I have before I started spending insane amounts of money on this thing

I can't even remember all the stuff I have done, but I think thus far for hardparts:

    Dubya wheels and tires
    axp skidplate
    doubletake mirrors
EU turn signals (I broke 1 of the originals walking by it in the garage...very weak)
    Rally pack
    GPS
    perun moto rear rack
    rally seat
    Scotts damper
    rottweiler brake line protection
    evotech front caliper guards
    acerbis handguards
    kickstand sensor relocation
    rottweiler fuel pump guard
    rear abs sensor guard
    rottweiler head brace
    powercell fuel filler
    rottweiler power plate air prefilter
    wings slip on

I am sure I am forgetting stuff...but now it is time to get some dirt miles on this beast!
