    Tie Down Techniques

So I bought one of those "condor-like" wheel chocks at Harbor Freight....and I am wondering how extensive the additional tie downs need to be... I had 2 straps up front on the triple, and 2 in back to keep it from walking but don't want to compress my suspension too much for the move to Cali on Wednesday.

The bike will be in the trailer for 3-4 days...
Should I just do a couple barely snug up front? What is safe but ok for my suspension on this long of a trip?

And do you think running a 190 rear tire will negatively affect the rear suspension in the trailer for a long trip? Give me worse gas mileage while hauling? Or with the uber-awesome mid corner stability help the bike corner with the trailer...

Will the condor be bolted down? If so, I would keep them snug, slightly compressed. If it wont be bolted down, I would cinch them down pretty well.

Yes...the condor is now permanently bolted to the floor of the trailer...

Then Id put them snug to avoid hopping around. But I dont think it needs to be real tight (giggity)

I'd use the same tension as before. Maybe a smidge less...

I don't think you'll really sag the suspension out even if you left it for a week cranked down.

Pete himself said the springs shouldn't fatigue in any persons' lifetime. I say, use your best judgement, you'll be just fine. (although I disapprove of giving you advice about how to get the fuck outta here)

Oh Bejeezus... Use my best judgement? Isn't that an oxymoron?

But yeah... I just started packing today...leaving Weds...and keep getting distracted by R6 racebikes for sale on the interwebs. Not really helping my packing.

    Canyon Dancers FTW!

I use my Harbor Freight chock with Canyon Dancers and one through the rear wheel to hooks on the truck to pull the bike down and forward.

    It never moves.

    Re: Tie Down Techniques

You shouldn't have to compress it much with a condor-style chock, but keep in mind that if you unload the hooks they can come off of whatever you've hooked to. Also, the rear straps should pull the bike forwards into the chock.

As Pete said. You cannot wreck the springs. If you left your engine in the same spot for a week would it ruin the valve springs?

I forgot my hawk strapped down in the trailer for a few weeks, one of those forgetfull moments when I got home after a race weekend.

released the straps and it went back to normal. raced the next weekend and everything was fine. 3 days in the trailer to california should be no problem.

I stored my GS on the trailer, strapped down the first two years I owned it. Only time it was off was if it was being wrenched on or raced.
