I use Progressive safety wire tabs on my Ducatis, like under a side case screw.

Or connect to the safety wire holes in the 17mm "nut" on the K&N oil filter.

Or I've been know to wrap the ends around a frame tube.

Good tip! I found a protrusion from where the kick stand mounts to tie it to.

    Re: Tiger 1050

Good review, thanks for posting. Bearing in mind that the air-cooled Multistrada differs a lot from the 2011-2012 liquid cooled that TrackRat mentioned.

I bought a used 2005 MTS 1000 last fall, "S" model with Ohlins. Pluses for me include: the wide flat seat; upright seating; good fuel range with 43mpg; not much engine heat cooking the rider (I get some on the left from the rear cylinder if in traffic); it's a Ducati; and riding with full Ohlins you can't go back. The bike had only 9K miles on it, and Seacoast included full service and new tires (Pirelli Angel GT) in the deal. I like air-cooled, that's just me. I have other bikes that I ride, so I won't need the full service (valves, belts) very often, so I change oil and filter, do the chain maintenance and so on.

On a trip a couple of weeks ago, I averaged 250 miles a day for five days, no pain.

If you're shopping around, there are plenty of the air-cooled Multis for sale at reasonable prices. Doing it again, I'd look for a 2009 1100S.

I haven't ridden a Tiger 1050. I wonder about engine heat on the rider.

    Anyway, some thoughts ...

I've never noticed any heat issues on the Tiger.

    Re: Tiger 1050

FWIW, supposedly the oil filter is 65mm with 14 flats. An official Triumph filter tool seems to be about $25-30 delivered. But it appears many Toyotas have the same size, and Lisle makes a tool for $8. Just ordered, I'll keep you posted.

Bought a fancy adapter to remove the front axle: sure wish I could find it! So bought a 14mm x 30mm long bolt and some nuts at HD. For two bolts and three nuts it was $4.75. So now I have a spare to carry with me.

On my Sprint 1050, I used a NAPA 1356 filter, which is longer. It allowed me to easily get at it with an swivel filter wrench.

I bought a threaded rod coupler to remove the front wheel bolt. Does the same thing as nuts and a bolt, but might be slightly cheaper.

What size? 3/4"? I think the opening is 19mm.

Yes, a 3/4" works. Another trick is to use the a 5/8" spark plug socket. Remove the rubber boot inside it, and use an extension backwards through the socket.

I tried the spark plug socket, but was stymied as it had a web that prevented inserting the socket extension.

3/4" coupling nuts are about $2.50 at lowes.

Filter cross reference. The longer filters are 3/4" longer. He recommends:

    About 3.25 inches long.

Considering upgrading from my FZ6 for commuting, weekend trips, ~100 mile 2up days, and occasional track day if my F4i is out of order.
    Update as of this morning

Took the long way home and added another 100+ miles to it. It's pretty freakin awesome. This bike was previously owned by one of the best Triumph technicians on the east coast, and all the major weaknesses have been addressed. Racetech forks, Ohlins shock, Brembo front setup (floating rotors, pads, master cylinder, lever), Euro Tiger Sport headlights, full Givi luggage, hardwired GPS/Radar, and a ton more farkles.

Things I'll need to tweak: bike is tall and heavier than my FZ6, I'm at very tiptoes at a stop, will be looking for a lower seat. The windscreen gives me quite a bit of buffeting. I don't like the screwdriver-handle shape of the Triumph heated grips.

Brakes look cool compared to Stock ABS.

According to Paul at CalSci, the "kick" on a windshield creates a lot of turbulence. The Stock Tiger Sport windshield is vented at the base to reduce the low pressure area behind the screen.

Is that Jim Hamlin's old bike? Looks great, glad you like it. The bike does almost everything. I hated the heated grips at first, now when I ride a different bike the grips always bother me... guess you get used to most stuff.

Yes, it is. Jim sold it in March to a guy who put 1800 miles on it, but now the guy I bought it from is moving so he was selling it.

I wish the bike had ABS. It may have had it originally, but it's possible he removed it to do the brembo upgrade - I know he did this on at least one of his customers bikes.

The windscreen is a Cee Baileys, about 21" tall

The Sport headlights have to be better than the stockers.

Took the tiger for a short ride to a friend's last night, got to test out the headlights. Honestly, I was pretty disappointed, but they do seem to be aimed very low. But I'm also coming off the dual HID projector retrofit I did on my FZ6. The Clearwater LED driving lights are hella bright, but the switch and dimmer controls are not in the easiest location to switch on the fly if oncoming traffic is approaching.

Found a small puddle of fork oil in my garage last night though, left one is leaking, and they were both just replaced in April. So that's a little disappointing. I need to mail the plate back to the PO tomorrow, so it's garaged until I can get to the DMV to get it registered.

Who wants to buy a loaded FZ6?

Try the business card trick on the fork seals. That worked great for me when mine leaked.

Was this an HID bulb in a reflector not originally designed for an HID bulb retrofit? If so I can understand why a different headlight that may have been designed for the reflector it was installed in isn't perceived to be as bright.

Personally can't stand driving around vehicles with HID bulbs in reflectors they were not designed to be in. Yes the person driving the vehicle can see great because they are throwing light from what amounts to a welding arc in all sorts of directions they shouldn't be. However, everyone around that vehicle is being blinded by that welding arc and can't see a thing.

What kind of half-assing shmuck you think I am??!
No, it was a proper retrofit job: separate the headlight housing, install quality projectors, etc.
But even with properly aimed cutoffs, on a bike with lousy suspension, it's definitely easy to blind oncoming traffic and vehicles ahead of you due to bumps in the road throwing the beam all around.
I'm putting my FZ6 headlights back to stock before selling it, going to hang onto the HIDs in case I can't get the tigers lights to my liking.

Most of the Tigers I see have aux lights attached to the engine guards. The Sport conversion seems to be a lot of work.
