    Time to come clean..

It's with a heavy heart that i write this, but feel that it's time to update you all. As many of you know i was hit two months ago by an [explitive] soccer mom in a minivan and she destroyed my F4i. let me make is crystal clear...this is by no means an "i'm not riding again" thread. Rather it is more like a hiatus..True this was my first season, but 10k miles in about 6 months is rather impressive(in my opinion). I'd like to think that those who have ridden with me know my passion for riding and my passion for becoming a great rider will not flicker out or fade. It's not a question of will I ride again, but more when. I've decided to take a break. I've been agonizing over this for a long time, but I've promised many people that love me that I won't ride for a while. It sucks, it sucks A LOT. But i have to think about the people around me for a while and let the waters cool...

I already miss riding so much...Hell, i've been missing it since the day i was hit...However, i think we can all agree that this has been one of the worst years in terms of cager taking out bikes. Those who have seen the pics of my bike know that I am EXTREMELY lucky to have escaped with relatively minor injuries. A rider on the R6 messagenet was recently killed in the same type of accident that took me out. I'll have scars on my legs for the rest of my life as a memory that fateful Friday lunch time ride..

I really what to thank everyone that I have ridden with this season, as I have learned something from each and everyone of you. I hate singling out individuals out of fear of leaving someone out, but i feel there are a few that i must thank. Wayne, John, Mike, Tim and Jeff. You are the people that will stand out in my mind as the individuals really helped me this season. I've learned so much about riding from you guys and i can't thank you enough. I realize how difficult it is to invite a NEWB on rides, especially when you want to spark things up a bit. I hope that when i return in a year or so, that you will welcome me back.

However, not to completely be out of the performance look, i have already signed up for two 6 hour endurance karting events (lime rock oct 16th, and Moroso, FL Dec 4th) and last weekend i bought a black mustang GT. (pics will be up soon). I'll still be on the boards, because you can never learn enough about bikes, and my ultimate goal is to get on the track where the are no minivans, kids, dogs, potholes, chipmunks, tarsnakes, drunks, etc. Thanks again everyone, I'll be back on two wheels again as soon as i can...

PS Wayne...I'd still like to get one more ride in this season if it's possible...

I want to start by saying that I had no idea this was your first season riding. You carried yourself quite well and seemed incredibly comfortable on a bike.

You were very lucky in your accident that your injuries were so minor, but you already know that. Take some time off, and enjoy your new toy. This will just give you time to save up for a new bike You had a tough decision, but it seems that you have come to this wisely. Give your family some time to mellow a bit, and when the time is right, get your ass back on a bike.

Just remember that everything that happens in life can teach you something. In this case, you learned that soccer moms who drive minivans don't like to pay attention to the road, but you also discovered just how much your family cares for you.

Good luck in the carting events and don't be a stranger. Let us know when you're back on two wheels so we can get some riding in.

Having a family and kids myself, I say my hat off to you for caring enough about their feelings to make that decision. I've never been into an accident on my bike, but always wonder if I should own one, having young kids to take care of, who need me more than anything.

Good luck, and lucky you...wow a new mustang!

    Time to come clean..

Took me 15 years to get back on a bike after my accident...
my wife still won't get on one (she was on the back but managed to get off the bike before I was dragged away).

and only after I move out of the city, where I refuse to ride now. It is tough enough in the suburbs. The problem with owning a bike is the cagers just don't look and cell phones have made it even worst.

Good luck and take your time getting back on one

i'll say this you rode very well. i glad to see that you took your family into consideration.

i dumped my bike over two years ago (my fault) and sold my bike soon after for a couple of fourwheelers. i was thinking this will take the place of my need for street riding. well it did not!

take your time enjoy the carting that sounds way fun! now if you want that stang to run fast try putting in a small block chevy.......

    Tim,

    Thanks for thinking of me...

You're still plenty young enough and you will have lots of time to get back into motorcycling. By the way, your maturity on a bike far exceeds your age. I've seen many guys your age acting way squidly. You are a very smart, sensible rider, but yet unafraid to hang with the quicker riders.

Have fun with the carting thing and post up some pics. If you are ever racing carts at NHIS, let us know.

Here's hoping to see you on a few rides, next season or whenever you decide to jump back in...

    Don't be a stranger.

    John

Its a hard decision to make, and props to ya for considering your family's feelings about this.

I had a good 4 year break from riding due to a serious accident that damn near killed me. Luckily a good friend of mine talked me into taking the MSF course and got me back on two wheels again, but I will say I STILL get the heebee jeebees every once in a while when riding when I think of that crash.

Take some time, but don't forget how much fun it is to be on two wheels!

    Cheers,
    Chris

But when we ride very fast motorcycles, we ride with immaculate sanity. We might abuse a substance here and there, but only when it's right. The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. If you go slow and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.

Thanks for the Encouragement everyone! I most certainly will ride again, and sooner rather than later.

I also want to thank Degsy, for teaching me more about my bike and bikes in general in one day that i had up to that point. Thanks Derek!

I understand where your coming from with keeping family and friends feeling close to heart. Your a better person for it. Take the time till things are at ease and get back out there when everyone is ready to support your love of riding again!

I seriously did not realize this was your first season either! You do ride well! A lot better than I did my first year!

When your back you are most certainly welcome to ride with me !

Let me first say that you are making a great, sound desicion. Take care of yourself and your family..............

I dont know you, but this post illustrates the type of person I would want watching my back, and riding with me.

Anytime you make it up here to the North woods of Maine.........Ill ride with yaa, any time any place, day or night. Just give me a hollar.

FWIW, I was away from riding for almost 10 years, got back on, was nervous for a couple min, but seriously it was like I never left it, still had all my previous attention, and skills, now I am trying to improve them.

Take care, and you gotta friend up HHEEYYAA

    Hey Tim,

I enjoyed riding with ya this season. You have a great attitude toward riding and the peeps that are close to you. Felt bad that things happened the way they did. You are a good rider! I wouldn't have offered ta let you take the RR if I felt otherwise. I never witnessed anything when you were riding that was risky. You have a level head when you're riding.

Strange how NESR attracts super peeps like yourself. I look foward to riding with ya next season.

    Wayne

PS Wayne...I'd still like to get one more ride in this season if it's possible...

    Tim.

Lets keep our eyes on the weekend of Oct 16th. My duc will be at BCM for it's 6k service this weekend.

    I'll keep ya posted.

I don't know you, nor I have I ridden with you, but we do have something in common.... the bug that makes you want to ride....
that urge to be one with the motorcycle.... the need to feel on that 'edge' of life....
