    tire input// tire changing

Throwing some new tires on my Xr650r motard. They have 8 yo pilot powers on them now. 50% worn but just too old to trust.

Whats a decent setup these day? nothing crazy sticky, just general road riding some twisties, longevity is preferred but they;ll likely dry rot before getting half worn.

Are there any local tire changing fellows north of boston?

if it's gonna dry rot before you wear the tread, getting a stickier tire only makes sense

fair point .. I assumed I was not goin to be using the sides soo much. In that respect if I went with a "sticky" tire.. the center miht square off easier. Also I'm a cheap basteard and want a good budget lower price. i assumed stickier=$$

17" rear... T30 looks interesting. reviews say stiff carcass. Interesting.................
    price seems right though.

Anyone want some 8 yo pilot powers maybe 10. Gone through about 10 winters and summers outdoors or in a sun soaked shed?

stickier tire may be more $$, I don't know, I haven't bought a street tire in years (I run dual sports) but worth a sport touring tire that dry rots before the tread is worn, you're throwing away half the tire

when I was running street tires, I favored Avon's cause of their use of Variable Belt Density technology rather than multiple compounds. IMHO, the VBD works better for keeping the tire from flattening in the center than a harder compound does

I am suspicious of the varying curing rather than a different compound on the edges

My Vstrom and me burn rears in 4 to 5 thousands front get changed with the 2nd rear
I think it was $212 delivered for the pair in the early spring

me thinks you don't know what VBD is, has nothing to do with "curing"

depending on which Avon website you go to, they use aramid belts as well as steet belts

    Re: tire input// tire changing

I ran the BT-023 on the rear of my DRZ400 SM. They were okay for street use I guess. But I was not happy with them at track days. IMO 'tards are light enough and weak enough (certainly the DRZ is) that spending the extra $ on "sticky" tires is okay. They still last me multiple seasons.

I had a BT-003rs front at the time. I was okay with that. I finally wore it after 2+ seasons.

I replaced with an S21 hypersport front and S20 Evo rear in 150. Happy with that setup. Better sidewall grip and I think the bike handles better. The 150 fits my DRZ without any issue.

I'm done running "sport touring" rubber on that bike. Just isn't worth it to me; not enough grip and I can't possibly use all that treadwear.

Realize that no two tires have the same shape. I was convinced 150 was as wide as I could go. But I've since tried Pirelli race DOTs and non-DOT rains in 160 on the bike and had "good enough" fit. My perception is that most street tires have a flatter profile and do not fit, where as race tires are sharper and do. "Supersport" street tires may split the difference; some may fit and others may not. I'll continue to hunt for 150's. The S20 was available and close enough to what I wanted so it worked out for my needs.
