    i need new tires...

Hey all. I really need new tires and want to know where to get them. I asked a couple of shops and they said installation is $40 to install if i get it from them and $80 if not. i'm wondering what shop to go to because i dont really want to order them online and ride to jim pidgeon in manchester, nh. i'm looking for feedback from positive experiences with local shops in the boston area. thanks alot!!

ps... besides michelin pilots, where other tires are decent bang for the buck as i'm still a newbie rider.

    UPDATE:

just an update if anyone cared. I ended up going to South Shore Motorsports in Quincy, MA. I settled on some dunlops because i got a pretty good deal (20% off) and they were the only things i could get in my size. (110/70/17 & 140/60/18)

anyways. i spoke with Ron in the service dept about installation. He quoted me "$35/wheel off the bike. $65 on the bike. BUT it's like $40 if you didnt buy from them, and i think it was $70 on bike if you didnt buy from them. " this is much better than the "$150 to mount and balance on the bike from Cycles 128 in Beverly."

IMO the pilot powers are you best bet as they wear great but have exceptional grip when needed

If you're a new rider and you want bang for the buck get a Sport touring tire, it'll last a hell of a lot longer. Much better bang for the buck.

    You mean the Pilot Road?

Pilot Sport is still a Sport Tire AFAIK.

Our Michelin experts can tell us but my understanding is:

    Pilot Road = Sport Touring
    Pilot Sport = Sport
Pilot Power = Sport with emphasis on Track days (Or is this a DOT race tire?)

To the original poster... you didn't say what bike you're on.

If you want bang for the buck like I said, get an S-T tire, if you want a Michelin, that is the Pilot Road. You can Try the Bridgestone BT-020, Metzler MEZ6, or one of the Avon Azaros. If you're on a 600, VFR, SV650, etc.. you ought to be able to get almost 10,000 miles out of even the rear.

If you are 300lbs and/or ride a ZX-10, Hayabusa, etc.. disregard everything I just said.

I have a set of Continental Conti Attacks on my 9R and like them very much. They were quite inexpensive and seem to wear like iron. Traction has been excellent so far but I ride like pretty conservatively hardy ever sliding much. They are ST tires.

I can get you a set of Michelin Pilot Powers (120 front & 180/190 rear) for under $240 shipped. They usually ship within 1 week, sometimes less.
Let me know if your interested and I'll get you the details.

It's hard to go wrong with anything from the big name tire manufactures.

Anything from Perelli is a very good tire. Diablo Strada might be right up your alley. I run the Diablo Corsas and they are a fantastic tire!

For my next set I am debating giving Michelin Pilot Powers a try. It is hard to try a new tire when you like your current ones so much!

according to the michelin dealer i talked to, this is the last year for the pilot sport, because the pilot powers are a better tire all around.

if you know someone at a dealer (where you bought your bike, or get it serviced) you can probably ask one of the mechanics if he does side work. thats what i did and they installed tires i bought online for $40 (rims and tires on bike). i bought them online for $250 shipped.

the deal yamamayzf1000r says he can get you is probably going to be the lowest you will find for pilot powers. read any review on the powers and you will buy them. there awesome. they help build confidence.

I buy from them as well and they are fantastic. There are a couple of sites that sell for a little less but when you factor in shipping they always come out on top. When you also factor in their customer service and efficiency, it's a no brainer.

    listen Up,
Anyone who needs Michelin Pilot powers you need to give these people a call:

    Flat Out Motorcycles
    317 890 9110
ask for Slava in the parts dept.

They are located in Indiana and I had my tires in 3 days for $236 shipped!

He can also get you any Yamaha parts for 20% over what he pays for it. I've looked everywhere and his prices can't be beat.

    FlatOutMotorcycles

If you order from them make sure you mention that you saw it on a message board (R1-Forum is where I saw it).
