would i be better off buying a tire for my bike somewere else than the honda shop? will it be cheeper elsewere? what about ordering online but ill prolly pay more cuz of shipping. anyone on here got a rear for sale? i think its a 190? lol havent looked
the rc comes with a 190/50 tire stock. A lot of people including myself have moved to the 180/55 size. Reason for this is is raises the rear a little bit and makes for faster turn ins. I think now you can find a 190/55 if you look for it.
Most places will run close to the same for tires. I just paid 220 for a set of pilot powers which is a good price. Maybe you can find is cheaper somewhere else if you look.
Go around and ask the different shops and check online and see what you can find. In the past Ive bought a lot of stuff from www.sportbiketrackgear.com with good results. The guy is very nice and is very easy to deal with.
Also ask Deb from here. A site sponser and has some very nice deals at time. Their website isnt up yet but Im sure if you looked down in vendors section under sportbike technology you can find out what they get.
Competition Accessories usually has pretty good prices on Pilot Powers. Instead of getting raped at tle local stealership I'd buy them online and have Degsy mount 'em up for you.
whats a good brand to buy?is this one good? or this one? i never bought tires before, dont kno what brands are good... thx-Smokey
I just ordered tires from southwest moto tires (www.swmototires.com), I've heard good feedback about them so gave them a shot. It was like $14 shipping for one tire, but for 2 tires, its free shipping. My pair of BT-014's cost me $180 + $0 shipping. Curious to see how long the shipping takes though, just ordered them yesterday.
I know a little about everything, and alot about nothing.
They are both good tires from what I understand but I have never ridden the dunlops. I have the Michelins on it and a new set of them going on tomorrow.Originally posted by SmokennFasTT

Bought my Avons from SWMoto and they had a buy 2 get free shipping. Got my Avons for just over 2 bills shipped - at least 100 less than elsewhere shipped to my door.
Bras cause cancer.
+2 for southwest moto tires, I don't even bother looking anywhere else. The last set of Pilot Powers I got for my R1 before I sold it were $220 to my door... and they were at my door 3 days after I ordered themOriginally posted by Nikon

That my friend, is very good news. Maybe I'll have to give Degsy a call, and set up a "date" this week for after work.Originally posted by R7

Why not just replace both at the same time? You'll get free shipping!Originally posted by SmokennFasTT
do the tires have to be the same brand? do i have to buy 2 or can i get away with only buying 1rear?![]()

You can buy just one tire if you want but I wouldnt suggest it. I look at it this way. Its not a car. You only have 2 tires. If one goes down youre screwed. Also getting the same brand tires is a good idea. People have mixed brands and have had decent results but they are designed to work together.Originally posted by SmokennFasTT

Dont go cheap on tires. Especially on that rc. It will rip them apart.
You're already in Manchvegas... check out the thread second from the top of this forum.

hey guys sorry to be a pain in the ass... but thats melol, when i was reading on the Michelin Pilot Powers i saw that they dont have much tread pattern and that there 6% softer does that mean they will ware fast? what about Avons?or Shinkos? i dont kno what to buy. i just want something that going to some what last be good in rain and in cold weather. thx alot guys, Smokey
I have a Pilot Power in my office with 15,000 miles on it. If you take care of any tire, they will last longer.
Putting his hands in the air, like he just doesn't care.

You have a RC51. Its a race bike. No tire will last that long if you ride it and dont be cheap when buying them. CHeap tires lead to poor handling and dropping of the bike.
Nice to see that from a tire expert... everyone seems to think Tires should never last for less then 5k miles.Originally posted by Karaya One

There are people over on the VFR forum who claim to be averaging 2000 miles per set of tires, something is wrong, IMO the VFR in particular should not be wearing out tires like that. An RC is obviously going to wear them out faster but you still should be able to have a lot of fun without trashing the tires that fast, especially on the street.
Check your tire pressures every single day and you will save a lot of money.
I have gotten close to 10,000 miles out of more then one set of tire without getting them to the cords. At that point they have a flat spot and are annoying but not so much so to really slow you down.
I have Diablo Corsas right now and they are definitely wearing faster then the BT-020s I had before but I still have 4000 miles on them already and they have lots of life left.
Dude,
You need to learn to hit the search button a little and do some research yourself. James and the others have given you plenty of info to hang yourself. Karaya One is the local Michelin rep/dealer, he will not give you bad advice. The Powers are the best tires I've owned. They stick just like DOT race tires in the dry and have great wet traction. If you take care of the tire they will last you. Suck up the cost of things, you cannot skimp on tires!
A bit of a tire debate on rc51.com.

Go read it and you should figure a few things out. Its specific to the rc so the info you be very valueable to you
