Do I need a title for a NH bike if I ride in MA?

I was looking at a winter project that has no title. If I buy out of state, will the bill of sale get me a title? What kind of red tape do I need to avoid?

I believe you need a notarized bill of sale from NH. How old is this bike?

I haven't committed to anything yet but late 60s to mid 70s. So the bill of sale should be enough to title if its a nh bike? Is there anything I can do to make sure I get a title after sale? Title search, etc?

no, the bill of sale alone will not get you a title

afaik, for a bike that old, you need a bill of sale and previous valid street registration to get a title

Anyone can legally register a vehicle in VT , no matter what your home state is .

The look back period is 15 years so any 1996 or older bike, would only need a bill of sale, 37 bucks for registration and some tax money to get it on the road.

NO new Title would be issued though, saves you another 30 plus bucks.

That's great.. I'm in Massachusetts unfortunately so there is a mile of red tape to cross

So previous road reg and bill of sale will get me a mass title?

    You mis-understand me completely

Vermont will register your vehicle with your Mass address .

You can even do it by mail.

It is totally legal , only people that could bitch would be your town for the property tax each year.

Why? You would have a perfectly legally registered vehicle.

They can ticket you for an improperly registered car... They have tip lines for Ma residents to call and report neighbors for improper reg. I assume if they wanted to they could get you for tax evasion (excise tax)..

The fine for registering an automobile in another state to avoid excise tax is either $500 or $1,000, depending on whether the person is charged civilly or criminally. According to state law, the city gets 75 percent of the fine for a criminal offense and the state gets the rest, and splits it 50/50 with the state if it a civil offense.
