    Title Woes...

So I went to register the 6R today, only to be informed that they can't register the bike because there's a lien on it. Called the seller and he swore there was none, promised to look into it. Meanwhile I called the number I found for the lienholder, and he appears to be telling the truth, they have no record of the guy. I got a call back from him and he says the DMV told him he must have had a lien release from the previous seller to register the bike, since you can't register a liened bike, and they must have accidentally left it on when they sent him the new title. It was a few years back and he says he doesn't remember, but he's gonna search his records and try to find such a document.

The practical side of me is screaming get the hell out, look at what happened to Kham, you can always find another bike, get your money back and void all contracts.

The trusting side of me that believes in human decency says mistakes happen, it's a nice bike, you like it, the seller offered to let you ride on his plates/insurance while he works to get the error corrected, it should all be sorted out in a week or two, have a little faith. Oh, and he seems like an honest guy

I'm probably gonna go with my gut, and trust the guy on this one, even though it's the same stupid trusting instincts that got my other bike stolen in the first place. Not sure why I'm posting this, I guess I just want to hear what a dumbass move that is so I can really beat myself up about it when it all blows up in my face.

My old roommate used to say, "The definition of stupidity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result."

It took me over three months from purchase to get the title for my Ducati. Sucks not being able to do anything with a bike you just paid so much for.

Just know when to get out.

I knew you must've picked up that bike. The weather turned to shit. Always happens with new bikes.

    Good luck with it.

    Title Woes...

Thanks for all the confidence people, I'm happy to report that the seller was able to locate the lien release and it is coming up from new york as we speak. If all goes well, I should have a permanent plate on monday morning; in the meantime, thanks to new hampshire's lax registration laws, I have 20 day temps to head up to the track with

I've been out tooling around on the 6R for the last two days, and I have this to report: Less weight is a very, very good thing! I don't really notice the extra 5-10 horses, mostly because I keep the bike in the mid range of the tach anyway, but the loss of a 60 pound spare tire round the midriff sure does play apparent when getting the bike over. Feels more stable at lean too, not sure if that's attributed more to the weight or the suspension, but whatever it is, I like it. Magnesium is a wonderfully trick metal, I have a feeling I will spend my riding career in search of bikes with more of it

On a related note, my Beemerstich arrived in the mail the same day I got my plates, so I've been riding around with that just to get a feel for it. It's definitely got it's advantages, feels much lighter and easier to move in, and with shorts underneath much cooler than the leather. I think I'll keep the leather around for spirited riding, as the thickness of it makes me feel like it will offer some degree of crash protection that cordura won't, also the abrasion resistance...but for riding to work or trips to the beach, the suit's gonna come in handy.

I'm probably gonna get stuck at work late friday night, but I'm clearing up saturday and sunday to really bed in my new ride. Anyone heading to the track or who just feels like coming up and tooling around with a (relatively) slow rider, LMK.

BMW Summer Coverall, BMW's mild weather 1 piece cordura suit. Looks similar to a 1 piece roadcrafter, motoport, all in that same vein. EBay special, I'd been looking for roadcrafters in my size but never found one at a price I wanted to pay, they hold their value it seems.

The coverall seems nice so far, it lacks the custom tailoring of a stich and it's not by itself waterproof (zip in liner which I didn't buy) but for a fair weather cyclist like myself I think it will do nicely for trips to work, beach, etc.

And of course, now I can tell everyone I own a Beemer

    'stich ramblings

'Stich ain't waterproof either. I know it's too late for you but for those that desire a 'stich, check the website for specials. They sell suits for about 1/2 price now and then and you may stumble upon a great deal. See: www.areostich.com

I love my 'stich. It's an awesome piece of gear. I have about 50,000 miles in it and it's wearing well.
