    For you TLR guys

I'm lookin' to pick up a new bike by the end of april/early may and have always loved the TLR's. What can I expect to pay for a very good condition tlr with reasonable mileage(under 15k) model year 2000 or newer? I've seen the one on craigslist that's been there for a few months goin' for $5200, but I don't see them come up on classified ads too often. Any input?

Not sure if that link works, but thats about the nicest TL I've ever seen. Just dont let the guy selling it work on your brakes.

I was up at Brad's last week. I didn't see that TLR there, unless it was tucked away...

don't pay any more than 5k. I've been looking for the last 3 weeks and just snagged an 01 of exquisit shape with lots of extras. I pick it up this week. This is my 3rd TLR.

2002 Yellow/Black. I bought new in 02. Built an addition on my house in 04 and sold it to help pay for it. Picked up a 2000 not long thereafter and had it for two seasons, sold it to try a new literclass I4. It wasn't as fun to ride as my TLR's were so I'm going back to what I had before and was familiar with for riding/maintenance.

Also, maybe the old saying is true that its more fun to ride a slower bike faster than a faster bike slower.

I believe its a consignment piece. Really nice bike, dripping with Ohlins goodies and and other cool aftermarket stuff. Maybe not around anymore.

How is old Brad, anyway? He left me a voice mail the other day asking me if I wanted to buy a book or something.

Yeah, they disappear quick when they appear on the classifieds. I had 2 nice ones I was interested in but were sold before I could I could get a chance to look at them. I finally got this one snagged.

I'm sure that one posted is a nice bike, but immediately I was turned off from the painted swingarm/rearsets/wheels. I don't know why, but I generally like to start with as clean of a slate as possible when I buy a bike.

I agree with you. I'd rather do any mods myself as I know how they are done and that they were done right.

I don't know I feel about the dry clutch either. TLR's don't have a dry clutch.

Yeah... I bet they won't know the difference. You may get questions like....

"wow... where did you get that two sided exhaust?"

"That thing sounds bad-ass... what pipes did you buy to get your Gix to sound like that?" -- answer, "You have to make it run on 2 cylinders"

Anyone ridden the TL and the RC51? How do they compare? The TL seems to be a bit cheaper. I'm going to go TL regardless between the two, but just wondering how they stack up against each other

The RC51 is a little better in a few respects. especially when you compare stock to stock.

The RC51 has had development years after it was first released. The TLR was pretty much unchanged from 98 to 03.

The appearance of the TLR, the large trunk to carry stuff in, price, and a few other small details made me go with the TLR. I wouldn't mind owning an RC51 though.

Its up to you. You'd be happy with either.

Heck... a Superhawk is cool too.

The more time I spend on my 1000 Strom, the more I really love its TL based engine. Gobs of torque, pulls hard from almost any gear and sounds great.

I'll never sell my TLR, I will buy another bike some time, but will never get rid of the Tiller.. Never felt this way about a bike, even after owning a few I4's.. .. Its hard to find a real good one, because if it is that good, there is no reason to get rid of it.. And don't let someone make you grab your ankles just because there hard to find, that happend to me because i wanted a Blk/Yellow one so bad..
