Can anyone offer a first hand comparison of your thoughts on the two bikes? I've been wanting to get back onto a TLR for a long time now but from looking around, finding a low-mileage unmolested TLR is getting more and more difficult, and for comparison sake it looks like I can scoop up a '00-'02 TLR with 20k miles and a '03-'05 SV1000 with <10k miles for about the same money.
Power, handling, comfort, fun-factor, etc.
Thanks
For example...
TLR - $3300

I think we need a TLRman here!

My 03 will be up for sale in the spring.
I've never "ridden" a TL. I cruised around on a TLR once but not enough for any comparison. I think the Sv is closer to the TLS as far as comfort and somewhere in between the S and the R in handling. Power and delivery comparisons I also don't know. I dynod mine at 115 HP, torque is unknown. I love my SV, the torque is phenomenal, handling is pretty good and the sound of the dual hi mounts......heaven.

TLRs don't come in the fastest color - coppah!
Go fast. Have fun. Repeat.

Never ridden a TL but I loved my sv1000

Can't compare since I've never ridden the SV1K. The SV will be a bit down on power compared to the TLR (maybe -10%?). A little bit lighter than the TLR. Comfort is all up to the individual; ergos definitely look more relaxed on the SV though.
If you get the TLR, I still have a bunch of spares up for sale, including a motor & the sweet LE/Penske rear setup.![]()
Since I got my VSTROM remapped it is a happy camper.
That may be why sv1000 weren't that popular

Sv1k was labeled the greatest bike that never sold

The sv is a great bike, change the front put a gsxr, u will have a hell of a bike for the money!

No advantage to putting on a gsxr front end. The forks are already fully adjustable and unless you absolutely have to have radial brakes the 4 piston gsxr brakes that are on there are more than capable. I also think you can drop an ohlins kit in there too as an upgrade.
