So here's the obligatory TLRMan is the guru thread. He stopped by and proceeded (amidst much cursing) to get the carbs out of my ZRX1100... Found most of the pilot jets were pretty clogged, and small debris in most of the bowls. Cleaned it all out, put it back together (again amidst much cursing and other inflammatory verbage) and synched it all up. All I can say is the 'Rex is spot on now and I couldn't be happier!! Thanks Mark.

    Don't forget about nurse Schleppy

You guys should have seen Scottie work those vacuum lines. Suckin' and blowin' like a champion. And you should have seen Mark work that fuel line protective coil, lol.

And I think after today he hates them even more, if that's possible.

is it supposed to be hard to take the carbs out? I've seen my friend take them out of his ZRX in about 5 minutes.

Yeah, and little bits getting stuck between the needle and seats.
Suggested an in line fuel filter, which was immediately installed after the fact.

If the airbox has it's way, and the throttle, and choke cables have their way,
it takes a little longer than 5 minutes. there is no room to facilitate a "smooth" removal, and install procedure.

It's possible! When Mark worked on mine, he pointed out how Kawi's have twice as many screws, bolts, fasteners, etc. you have to remove to get to the carbs! Christ, just to get the air box off alone required removing something like 8 screws and nuts. He demonstrated on his TLR how quickly he got things unbuttoned. I think the guy's impervious to gas. Sucking on the fuel line, etc. I was like "dude, you're gonna get gas in your mouth"! He shrugged. No biggie. He just spit the gas off his lips and kept going....'nuff said.

Re: Yet again, TLRMan comes through.

Bad news, problem's still there, same symptoms, only doesn't clear up always at 3k rpm, sometimes stumbles to 5k. Idle is weird too, it'll idle at 1k, then next I stop at 800, then at 1200 the next time I come to a stop. Bike absolutely reeks of gas but nothing's coming from the carbs. I think I'm starting to hate Kawis too. Maybe I'll get something reliable, like a Ducati.

Gravity fed or fuel pump??? Might be a bad petcock allowing gas to keep draining into carbs. Eventually one carb (left carb) will fill up as weight of gas overcomes a tired float valve.

Re: Yet again, TLRMan comes through.

LMAO, indeed. Well here's the update, headed on up to the Mad Scientist's Lab (aka Q's garage) and tore into the 'Rex again. Got the carbs out and bowls off, lookie loo inside and... nothing. Clean as a whistle. Maybe whatever sh*t got in there worked it's way out, I don't know. We blew some carb clean through all the little areas we could think off, and buttoned her back up (oh how I love getting that bank 'o carbs in!) While the tank was off, we drained it and tossed in some seafoam for a good swish around, drained again, mounted it all up and fired her up (mostly on seafoam with a tiny bit of gas)... she ran rough, but soon coughed and sputtered herself to life and off we went in search of the nearest gas station. Found a Shell and topped up the tank (with some more Seafoam for good measure) and stopped for a beer and some dinna. Rode home down 128 with a dark (I mean, *dark* visor) following Q's tail light. She rode like a dream, but I know the real issue arises after sitting for a while.

So I head to bed with thoughts of carb's and little carb gremlins trying to f*ck me over by getting stuck just about anywhere they can. Wake up this morning and head out to the garage, I had to replace a section of fuel line that was starting to leak, so I took care of that and fired her up. Broommmmmmm she fires right up and settles into a healthy booming cadence.

Now the only oddity here is the idle seems to change around a lot, or at least when cold she doesn't wanna idle, so I dial in some revs after she warms up, and a few minutes into the ride I dial it back down to 1,000 rpm. So far so good, made it into my Dr's appt this morning, and into work... all around town at low(ish) rpm's, and she's smooth as Denno's bottom. So we'll see, right now the tank is good 'n full so the last hurdle is to see how she behaves when the tank's nearing empty, which is the other times I've had issues.

Big thanks to TLRMark for the initial cleaning and setup, and of course to the Mad Frenchman Q for his willingness to tear into just about anything. And last but not least, to Mr. DesmoTull who noticed some bonehead thing we forgot to do as we were buttoning up the bike.

    PS: I Pumpkin Ale.

Re: Yet again, TLRMan comes through.

    Thanks for the plug.

The idle will vary as the engine temp increases on carbs for sure.
