    Boots: Sidi or Alpinestars

I am in the market for new boots. I got money for xmas and I have wanted new boots for some time. The two pairs I am looking to get are the Alpinestars Supertech R boot and the Sidi Vortice. I want a full race boot because I plan to do more track days and after seeing the aftermath of a good friends ankle after a crash, I want the best.

I like the A* boots because I like A*gear. I love the gloves and the two piece suit I have of them. Plus, they will resole the boots if I send them back to italy for 75 bucks.

The Sidi boots, I know my good friend who races has them and swears by them. Says thay are super comfy and have great protection. Takes awhile to get into but I am not worried about that. Also, the balls of the sole can be unbolted and new ones replaced (love that) and every part on the boot can be replaced.

So here is my question. Any of you out there have the sidi's or A*'s I have talked about? Looking for some feed back before I buy.

    Re: Boots: Sidi or Alpinestars

I've got the Supertech R's. Love em. I've had em for three full seasons now and they're still in pretty decent shape, although I've had to fix the zippers on each one. I've found that to be the weak point on Alpinestars boots.

I tried on a pair of Sidi Vertigo back before Sidi came out with the Vortice... Great boots, but they just didn't feel right on my feet. The Supertech R's do. I may see if I can get my hands on a pair of Vortice to check those out. It's almost time for some new kicks.

Find a way to try em each on. Everyone's feet are different.

Can not say any thing about A* never had them.
Sidi Could not be happier got mine two years ago and still have them. yes they take some time to get used to. lightweight but still do the job. cosmetically the Sidi boots age gracefully and retain their rigidity and comfort.

While I'd agree that A*s has kinda gone down a bit in terms of build quality (I've blown out three pairs of A*s gloves with just normal wear... never buying another pair again), the Supertech R boots are the bees knees.

    Crash tested, Oreo approved.

I have a pair of A* Supertechs. I love them. I had a pair of oxtars before and they never felt right. The A* have been perfect out of the box and they have survived some high speed crashes.

    Re: Boots: Sidi or Alpinestars

You don't need to send A* to Italy anymore for repairs. just buy them from an authorized Parts Unlimted dealer and they'll be able to repair them in Cali at A* USA. We just sent a set there for Corry and they came back mint.

    Orly?????

How much would it cost to send em out for repair? I assume it depends on what needs repairing?

    Re: Boots: Sidi or Alpinestars

You need to do it through the PU dealer you bought them from.
I actually covered the shipping costs for our customer and A* did not charge for repairs.
If you bought them through us bring them by.

You need to try both or you will never know. I always had A* and wanted the vortice. Tryed it and hated them so I went with the supertechs and love them.

The difference in fit is dramatic. Order both in a couple of sizes and return the rest.

I've tried the vortice and they fit pretty good but not plush if that makes sense.
I've heard the supertech r's are 1 size bigger? U have to get a size smaller?

I'm in the same boat n torn between the 2 also.

duncanmoto how much do u sell the supertech r for?

    Re: Boots: Sidi or Alpinestars

I have had the same set of A* SMX+ boots since 2006, and they have held up great. Got in a accident on the track with them, and am certain that my leg was not as badly broken if it could have been if I were not wearing those boots. Comfy as hell, mine are a little beat up (needs to slider, resole) other than that, its perfect for me.

I can't comment on Sidis but they look good as well.

    Re: Boots: Sidi or Alpinestars

LOVE my Sidi Vortice, bit narrow for my feet but given a choice tighter is better than loose. imo Sidis offer much more support than A*. as far as repairs all common areas for repair unscrew/come off for easy at home repairs.

I had a size 11 us in the dainese tourq boots that I am replacing. I looked on the A* size chart and they only make a 10.5 no 11 very strange.

    Re: Boots: Sidi or Alpinestars

I had a set of Sidi Vertigo Corsa boots and they were great except that the toe cap wasn't quite tall enough to fit me comfortably. I had them for 3 years before this became too much of a problem (started doing multi-day events). I got a set of A* Supertech R's and have had them for 2 years. They feel great.

I crashed in both, but neither crash were hard on the foot/ankle.

I have the Alpines....they fit and feel amazing when on the bike.

Am I the only one that is driven absolutely crazy by the squeeking they produce when not on the bike - walking around?

That is the ONLY downside in my opinion.

    Re: Boots: Sidi or Alpinestars

I have the SiDi Vortice and love them so far. Only 1 season on them and one trackday and the fit/feel really hasn't changed that much. I use the thick MX socks that go up past your knees when wearing them though...actually they are A* MX socks. With the vents, keeping the feet cool on hot days isn't an issue even with the thick socks.
They did squeek quite a bit, but a cleaning using ArmorAll takes care of that.

Like everyone says tho, you need to try on each. SiDi road boots fit me great while thier offroad boots didn't feel that great. A* offroad boots fit me great, while the road boots didn't
