The warmer weather and some talk of painting, including a coworker smashing up his truck and needing to get that painted, has me thinking it’s almost time to paint the EX I picked up for the track this summer. I have a buddy that can paint and he’s going to teach me. I’m sure I’ll f it up, but I’m also sure it’ll get all scraped up too, I don’t really care. I just need to lose the teal on the grab handle and some of the stickers.
I’m new, hence slow, so I don’t want anything that will stand out and scream “look at me”. Solid color, nothing flashy. I’m partial to a very, very dark blue. Wouldn’t be much of a change from what it is now, just a bit darker, all one color and sans stickers. Any other suggestions? I like orange, but don’t think it would look great on an EX, plus it’d probably stand out more than I want. Dark green? I’m open to ideas.
Good call, that won't stand out at all. Who's the guy with the hello kitty stickers all over his bike? Maybe I can get some of those to go with it.
Well...
cheap track bike makes me think rattle can flat black.![]()

Primer is a color, right?
You may want to do a nice paint job on it, make it all one color and stay away from flat black and primer. By doing it this way, you won't mix it up with every other EX up there!

Dollah... I had to read that twice to make sure I was reading right. This is still NESR, right?Seriously though (if I still know how to do serious, I'll try) I appreciate it. I really have no idea what to expect up there. Part of me wants to go up to a couple races before I pick a color and see what everyone else is running so I'm not "that guy". Since my preferences (outside of orange) tend to be dark and non-flashy anyway I figure I can avoid that, and the weather has me wanting to do SOMETHING! I shouldn't have bought a bike that was so damn turnkey... there's nothing for me to tinker with. Anyway, it's good to read your reply that nobody is really going to give a shit or look down on me for whatever I go with. Pink it is! Or dark blue. I still think orange might be a bit flashy, even if nobody would look down on me for it, it might be flashier than my tastes dictate for a bike I just plan on beating on anyway. If it were my street ride and I didn't plan on it getting aquainted with the pavement orange would be a no brainer. Then again, every time I drop it is another opportunity to work on my painting skills...
Lion… I considered flat black. Still might happen. It won’t be rattlecan though, I want to learn to paint anyway and a track bike I don’t care about effing up is about as perfect an opportunity as I’m going to get to practice.
Wood grain… that’s like my buddy that wants me to do it camo. Way too much effort for something I’m just gonna mess up anyway. Wood grain would be a lot funnier than camo though.
BMFR… nice. Whatever I do will be one color, at least until I ride it, so it should be easy enough to tell which one is mine.
Jesus, you guys are replying faster than I can type a reply. Anyway, appreciate all the feedback so far.

owensracingphotos.com. Go to the LRRS section. Poke around. Theres every manner of paint up there. No one cares, one guy had his kids finger paint hand prints and shit all over his bike. It looked way cool. One guy who was on nesr had a paint job that looked like someone puked lucky charms all over it. It was fucking awesome.
actually, I was pondering a similar dilemma last year, so I did a little research into human reactions to visual colors.
I found a pretty thorough primary resource/scientific paper on the response of test subjects riding roller coasters (which is the adrenaline level most track day riders are experiencing as they approach to pass you) to different colored lights flashed in front of them. The data would be used in theme parks to excite/scare people when they flew into a dark room riding a roller coaster.
The paper ranked colors in increasing intensity of excitement, but I just used the data in reverse and painted my bike the color that startled people the least.
The results showed that the best color for this application, is something that probably doesn't exist because I made this whole paragraph up. I don't even know why you're still reading because I'm going to waste another 10 seconds of your time with this outrageous, run-on, meaningless, preposterous, sentence. In conclusion, I don't think it matters, so either paint the bike in the color that you think looks good, or paint it whichever color is the cheapest.![]()

Yea nobody really cares, don't worry to much about what to expect when you get up there. Everybody is pretty laid back and along the same mindset.
A nice paint job seems to have a way of becoming friendly with the pavement sooner rather than later though I've learned.
paint it with a roller that would be different

what ever color you paint it.. make sure you can match it with a rattle can. I painted my racecars with easily matched rattle cans.
Is 'Naked Beet' a color?
