    ???? Track Bike Help

I'm not familiar with the other but the ex I'm sure would be a blast and cheap to run.

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

    ???? Track Bike Help

The EX is VERY common at Loudon. There's TONS of knowledge on how to set them up for the track.

The interceptor is a cooler bike, but not quite as up to the task as the EX. The forks are seriously spindly. The chassis doesn't quite keep up with the motor. On the track, you want the opposite, a motor that can't keep up with the chasis.

That said, what you really want is a 94+ EX. This gives you 17 inch wheels that you can put race rubber on. The older bikes had 16s and run bias ply tires.

If you're not shy of a little work, get the cheap 89 and convert it to 17 inch wheels. One of our instructors has all the details on the conversion, and a machine shop to make the spacers.

Best bet, buy a race prepped 94+ EX at Loudon. They can be had for 2 grand with all the upgrades. It would be a great move for a trackday enthusiast.

Heh, sure you can fit on an EX there, Stevie??? it's a far cry from that 600lb two-wheeled tank you call a motorcycle

btw, i'm keeping your rain gear very safe... i hope you haven't needed it at all that's the only reason why i chimed in on this thread

it still has 16 inch wheels and stock suspension. You don't want either of those, so add 1500 dollars to the price. The link I sent you makes a lot more sense. It's the MOST bang for your buck in a trackbike, hands down.

I raced EXs for 2.5 years.

When you check the bike over, you want to ask if the gears were undercut, or if not, was the shift kit added? They tend to pop out of second gear otherwise. If you can test ride it, try to load the engine in 2nd and see how it goes. If it pops out, that's a little problem.

If nothing has been done to the tranny, the kit is a cheap fix that works. Undercut gears are a more expensive proposition, but work fantastically well.

    ???? Track Bike Help

Well now I'm getting more into this than I was planning There is one ex on that site and a couple of others with more cc's . I'm a 200lbs guy ,, should I be looking into something a little bigger ? Or does that matter if the bike is set up right ? I e-mailed that one ex and its still around . There are also a couple of those track Only 400's that seemed cheap enough ??? Very tiny bikes ! Thanks for the input

The idea here is BUDGET trackbike, not HP or cc's. If you have unlimited funds, an SV would haul you around better. But that's a whole different discussion.

If you want the most bang for the buck, stick to the EX. Not only is it cheap to but, but you can get a good motor for 500 dollars. We call it the 500 dollar tune up and it sure comes in handy for a track only bike.

It will pull you around OK. The best thing about an EX is that it demands cornerspeed (unlike an SV) to get around even moderately quickly. Think of it as a teacher, not a dreambike.

A friend of mine has a 98? Penguin (stock) bike for sale. Asking 1,500. Raced by a young woman. Not heavily crashed.

The info is up on lrrsracing.com classifieds.
