You shouldn't be basing your decision on carb maintenance lol. Have you rode an i4 before?

Insurance is a good point. IIRC the SV gets classified as a non-sport, isn't that true? I should probably make a call before buying anything.

My insurance is currently dirt cheap. It always has been, even when 20-something riding a nearly 100 HP 1200.

Brakes, springs, throttle cables, all that are par for the course. Someday I'll fess up on the shit that was broken on my 3 month old 'strom when I dragged it home. You bring a flashlight, look the thing over, make your offer, and deal with the rest when you get home.

I really, really can't deal with something not streetable. I'd do something stupid and get it impounded. Best avoid that temptation entirely.

Fer serious man, buy some zip ties or something and get on with it.

Also tell me which day you're going to the track so I can sign up too. Anything but the first few weeks of August. Let's do it, yo.

This is the problem right there. You need a five year plan, not what track bike can I get my hands on now. Take your track bike budget and blow it all on her, something that lasts, like furniture that she can look at everyday. Then get the bike next year, the personal instruction the year after, suspension upgrade comes next, ...

How about a CB-1? I've got one, will let it go cheap. Needs some work, but would be fun on the track.

Are those handlebars? I'm on a mission for something with clipons... or is conversion trivial?

Re: Track toy for ol' bubs..

I'll 5th or 6th the SV. I was in denial as well. I didn't want that gay little commuter bike for the track. I wanted a track beast. But the SV is perfect. I got an 07 clean title in good condition with 6k last year for 2500. Maybe it's something you have to ride to understand. The only time I wished I had more was on the straight at VIR where I topped it out half way down. Still every time I re-passed a 1000 in turn 1 it was all worth it. I wish I got it earlier. The SV is so good that my track only GSXR600 has been sitting in the basement since I got it and I have no motivation to fix it.

I have many problems, but this is not one of them. I have no qualms about the SV. I love the piss out of my DL; it has resparked my love for motorcycling. I recommend the SV to anyone that asks.

    Fuck me.

If I were in the market for a cheap, clean, streetable SV.. what would I be looking for?

1st gen? 2nd? Carb'ed or not? Doesn't really matter, right?

At least it's just one oil filter to stock.

Buy my bike bud! Its already got almost everything you'd need for a track bike. Needs very little maintenance to get it 100 percent again, and comes with a bunch of goodies and good tires.

The S models have clip ons and a fairing. The SF model has a lower fairing as well. The S models tend to sell for the same or less as the naked versions for those very reasons.

There's a late model S with ABS for sale on here right now for a very fair price.

It is.. but at least 2x my budget. I suspect I'll probably wind up with a carb'ed gen1 without ABS. Which is fine.

First or second gen, S or N, doesn't matter. Find one that is a good deal and jump on it when the time comes. But do be patient....

Does anyone know, does the -S insure any different than the -N? Does one insure as a sport bike and the other as a standard?

I need to call my agent. But I'm interested in what others' experience has been.
