4 straps or 2...and why?
4 - one for each limb......
oops, I mean, 2 in the front and 2 in the rear!!![]()

Depends on what bike I am hauling - if its the ugly-ass Franken-bike, I'm not too conerned if it flops over in the back of my truck, it surely wont be getting any uglier. On the other hand, had I a nice bike, I probably wouldn't mind the extra security that two straps in the back affords.
Or what happens if you have a near accident that causes you to swerve and the rear tire shifts...?Originally posted by The KING
4.
more stability, and more backup. when using two, what happens if one breaks or loosens?
Not a personal experience....but someone I know who got cut off and his rear tire shifted and....plop....the pavement was not kind!!Originally posted by The KING
why does this sound like something that comes from experience?
Personally, I rather take the extra 5 min to add two more straps.

2 straps and would NEVER stick my front wheel in a chock, too easy to damage rotors......

I've only ever used 2 straps.
Because the last time I hauled my bike I only had 2 straps... and the bike barely fit in the bed with the tailgate down anyway.
So strapping the back tire would have been difficult anyway.

2 straps in a truck, 4 in a trailer.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
Can I write in 3 straps?? One from each side of the tripple tree to the floor, or bar end to the floor depending on where your anchor points are. And the third like a triangle through the rear tire just to keep it from bouncing around! I've tied down a few bikes and this always works great! Maybe Half Squid could put up the pics of the 7 bikes in my trailer leaving the last trackday, I'm not sure you'll be able to see the rear tie down but you might.

I have had one break before and the the 3 others kept it from going over. That was on a 8 hour trip from VA. So the extra straps are worth it.

Ussually Three! & My new way is just the way I learned from Brian & Joel! Under the tripple tree.
I have always used a canyon Dancer with two straps from the front, and one pulling the rear tire back to one tie down location. Works well. But 4 is always more stable! The canyon dancers sometimes can damage your grips, but you just have to be careefull as to how you loop and pull down when strapping it..
Only use 2 if you feel like loosing a bike or 2 ! Too risky for my blood.

Exactly how i feel. I always use 4 straps wether it's in the truck or in the trailer. It's not worth the chance IMO. Plus i never use a chock, don't see the need for it and it's just another thing to get in the way and take up valuable floor spaceOriginally posted by The KING

52 in front, 2 in the rear, 1 through the front tire toward the front of the trailer. Hey even if all 4 break, that last one will keep my bike ON the trailer at least!
I use 4. At about $5 each, they are cheap insurance.
Put me down for 4, its takes alot less time than stopping to get your bike after it falls off.
As many as you have.
I only have 4.
