    Transformation of a track bike...

some of you know that I recent aquired a pretty slick track bike from another member here. (Thanks again Ryno)...

It's a '96 GSX-R750 (big surprise). and when I got it looked like this.

I picked it up on the way to the first Tony's Track Day this year and ran it the next day in the rain...

When I got it, it was all primer and the gas tank had a half attempted repair to some dents. When I got it back to my shop I decided that I just couldn't leave it like that. This bike deserved better. (well, it at least deserved a paint job)

I had vowed to not spend a fortune on this thing. It was purchased as an inexpensive track bike and that's what it needs to stay. I was trying to figure out how to paint it and then one of my collegues had a brilliant suggestion! Alright, it wasn't exactly brilliant, but it was funny and would be cheap since most of the materials I needed were already in stock. so I called up my brother who runs a body shop and we got to work...

Bondo? No, we didn't use any Bondo...

I've still got to do a front #plate and paint the wheels in John Deere Yellow... But at least you get the idea...

Way ahead of you. I already ordered a vinal seat cover from a tractor. I'm waiting for it to come in so I can stretch it over the existing seat.

I'm gonna do a front number plate in JD yellow. I figured that the decals looked better than rear number plates. Plus that will give me a spot for stickers, like the new TTD decals that Tony had made...

I'm already working on it. That was part of the original plan. It will be done before the next time the bike appears at a trackday...

Haha... 4 cans of $4.00 spray paint does not count as new paint!

One of my techs told me that the bike is going to crash itself in response to being painted JD green. He pretty sure that it's gonna get confused, thinks its a mower, and head for the lawn outside of T4. I say that it's never been treated to such fine pampering.

It is a track bike. For doing track days. I'm gonna put a number plate on the front just to break up all the green on the nose. Probably use my daughter's birthday or something. I've no plans to go racing anytime soon. My current employment does not allow the time to go racing. Motorcycle dealers are pretty busy this time of year. If someone wants to hire me into a nice, lucrative, 9-5 job so that I can go racing... I'm all ears!

Re: Transformation of a track bike...

Well, you could come work for me. Nice & 9-5 I can give you... but Lucrative, not so much... the job pays peanuts.

No seriously, I'd pay you in peanuts. And you'd be doing all the shit that I don't wanna do... like go buy a new cell phone... and fix the brakes on my car... and pay the bill when I take my girlfriend out to dinner... but you can't pay the bill with the peanuts I pay you. You'd have to get them exchanged for dollars.

I am also in need of a personal sla...err, assistant, but to sweeten Pete's deal I will pay you in cashews. And as anyone who's anyone knows, cashews are vastly superior to peanuts in every way.

Cashews are difficult to pass up. You've got me there. Unless someone comes along offering macadamias, I think you've got a deal.
