    Can anyone transport a bike?

Not sure if this is in the right section so please move this if need be.

Hi guys, so some of you may know I recently bought a Street Triple. It has a salvage title so I need to get it inspected by an authorized inspection site before I can register it. I basically need someone that can trailer it for me or secure it in the back of their pickup truck. I live in Boxford and need it trailered to Haverhill, not the furthest commute by far. I'd be willing to pay for gas and $50 for your time. I'd be looking to go either Nov 22 or 23 (the days before thanksgiving). Let me know if you'd be willing to help a NESRian out! If not does anyone know a company that tows bikes for a reasonable price?

    Thanks,
    Andy

Pssh... Boxford to Haverhil? That's a cake walk.

It's a little early to tell for me, but if I can't help ya out, I'm sure one of the other North Shore locals can.... but I can probably make it work with my schedule. I usually get home from work sometime around 5-6.

Ok thanks Pete, I'll call the place tomorrow to see when they're open. After 5 might be too late but I'll find out.

My truck is my DD but if you want to swap cars for a few hours you're more than welcome to take my ram.

Also if you're really in a pinch and can't find a ride this guy has helped me in the past with pretty reasonable rates : http://ironhorsetransport.net/index2.htm

If 5 o'clock is too late, you're more than welcome to steal my trailer & tie down straps for the day.

All you need is a car or SUV with a tow hitch, a 1 and 7/8" ball (or a 2" reciever hitch) and a 4 pin harness.

If you need a crash course in how to load the bike on there, come by a day early when I'm home and I'll walk ya through it.

Re: Can anyone transport a bike?

Ok so they are open from 8am-3pm. Would anyone be willing to leave at about 7:30am on wednesday the 23rd? I would like to get an early start considering I then have to tackle a bunch of other steps to get it registered this being the first.

    Wirelessly posted (Blackberry Tour: Mozilla/5.0 (BlackBerry; U; BlackBerry 9650; en-US) AppleWebKit/534.8+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/6.0.0.600 Mobile Safari/534.8+)

Have you fully gone through the report of parts they will want to see replaced and can provide recipts? I know when I went through this process the trooper doing the inspection wanted to see every damaged part replaced with a recipt to prove legit purchase. The used gas tank I installed, they wanted a VIN from the donor bike. Just trying to gove you a heads up that they can be VERY strict and I'd hate to see you go through all this getting your bike there only to get rejected.

I have as much info as possible. All of the repairs were done by a dealer and they wrote up an in depth service report with receipts.

that's insane. so if you had bought the tank off ebay you'd have been screwed? or from a salvage yard that didn't have the record of which bike it came off?

I believe as long as you have receipts you're good to go. I mean you can buy parts from a triumph dealer and obviously thy aren't going to have VINs attached to them.

i went through this here in NH. the salvage bike actually didnt need a thing per say. it had a front broken blinker mount but that was it. i just told the inspector that i had a race bike and i took all the stock parts off of it to put on the salvage bike. i had to show that i owned the donor bike by showing a title but not the bike.
the problem with getting salvage bikes is usually they get bought at a salvage yard or an auction. there is no record that comes with the bike to say WHY it was totaled and even if you had the name of the insurance company that totaled it, they cant give you any info regarding the bike or the owner. a bike can easily be totaled for a scratch on the frame that either isnt visible when put together or is purely cosmetic and you or the original owner doesnt care about.
obviously if its your own totaled bike that you bought back from the insurance company you would know exactly what needs to be fixed.
when i picked up the salvage bike i bought i couldnt even fathom how it got totaled. after some leg work and some sweet talking i got the insurance company to send me the original crash estimate. someone got fucked for sure. they had put front cylinder replacement on the estimate, but i still dont know why. theres no scratch or dent and the bike runs flawless. and the damage to the bodywork wasnt even directional. it looked like it just fell over :idk:

Re: Can anyone transport a bike?

OK so first off thanks a ton to Kelli for helping me out!! She was great!

And you guys are right, they reallllly gave me a pain at the inspection station. Whoever I spoke to on the phone was wrong, and the information on their website is wrong. It turns out I need a copy of the title from the parts bike. I see where they are coming from with that, but I feel like as long as they have that bike's VIN they should be all set. I mean on the application and online it just says I need the VIN, but apparently their application and website are wrong...

Second I needed an appraisal from the insurance company that rendered it as a total loss. This information is also very vaguely posted on the website and the lady I spoke to from the state said I didn't even need this. Lucky for me I was able track down the original insurance company and after several transfers and supervisors later I had the appraisal in my inbox, so all I'm waiting on right now is a copy of the title of the bike from which my motor came from. And believe it or not I was able to find the bike that my motor came from... gotta love the internet huh? https://www.iaai.com/vehicles/vehicl...ionid=10430297
