    Trick RD 400.

I guess I will start a thread now for this. Looking for some help here.

The big things I’m not sure of are usd forks (thinking RS250?)

    S.S.S.A. VFR 750?

Reverse cylinder with the carb’s up fount and have the pipe’s come straight back.

So any RD help here is good. The RD forum is no help. If it’s not stock they don’t like it and ask why change a good thing. Engineers made it that way for a reason.

If you're going USD / SSSA I'd just plan on a total frame swap. If you don't you'll have super stiff suspender bits trying to pretzel that old frame.

On the cylinder front, I'll try to find the link but there is a company that makes updated RZ cylinder castings that accept CR250R reed blocks for HUGE gains in breathing.

This is an RD he is building, not RZ.

Steve, I have a friend in Cali who does amazing work on air cooled smokers, he owes me a favor or two...

Yeah, but nothing says you can't make it liquid cooled. I thought the RZ and RD shared the same stud spacing/etc?

    Re: Trick RD 400.

I swapped a gsxr front on my rd for giggles and i had more or less everything on hand. The end result was less than desirable. The frame was twisting so hard it scared me. Everytime i went into a corner and gave it gas it would just wallow around. I tried better tires out back to try and compansate but it made it even worse. I ended up going back to the stock front end and im respringing it and setting it as best i can using old tech.
If you insist on swapping it id look at the frame and attempt to gusset it and beef it up were you can. I say attempt because most people have poor results and the stiffer frame usually end up either a: breaking someplace else or b: becoming so rigid the bike has no give and it really needs so give.
I know i sound like most of the other 2t guys and thats because i am. As cool as it sounds and would look these little bikes just cant handle it and truthfully behave better when they are a little loose. Just swapping rims and putting modern supersport tires on them make it an un-fun ride.

You want to get that kind of power and survive I'd suggest to start with a better chassis, start with a whole new bike!

NSR250 would be the best in it's class and arguably best all around smoker while RG500 is still the King of street going 2 strokes but getting up there in price.

I know there are plenty of other large displacement smokers out there, but IMHO RG is the most developed chassis in a 500 cc category (V-due aside) and I know where you can get a nice one if you can afford it.

It's winter, it's assumed good advice would cause more turmoil so it was allowed.

Dynotune here on NESR did an RZ motor into a Hyosung sport bike chassis. It was SICK. If he doen't pop in here and say something I'll look for pics late.

Find a Ninja 250 with a blown motor and grind off the engine mounts.

I have an NSR rolling chassis: frame, swingarm, forks, wheels... rear is 18" and front is pretty narrow (takes 110 tire) but you can easily fit any modern Honda front end and rear wheel.

    Re: Trick RD 400.

If you are going to do a SSSA conversion and reverse cylinder, do the frame first. You will have trouble getting the pipes around the shock etc so best to know what you are working with first! Also, reverse cylinder can be a real pain in the ass to jet correctly plus getting the filters to fit between the frame rails can be tricky too!
Post pics if you go through with it!!

here is another one...aprilia 250 frame.... checkout the banshee forums(planet sand as well)...those guys have a great writeup on a guy doing a reverse cyl setup....tons of machine work etc... pipes get interesting.... stick with the banshee motor...tons of power...cheap to build. rd400 might be to weak of a chassis time you get done with your hard work!! Take your time and do it in a nicer chassis...the cool part about the twins is they fit in almost any chassis!! good luck and have fun!

side note.... thanks sheppo.... that little red bike was very fun...the new aprilia is mucho more fun LOL. 290lb and 100 plus hp...

Anything can be made to fit, if you have access to a comprehensive machine shop and fabrication equipment! The problem is if you have to pay people to do this work for you, one off machining jobs are not cheap and there will be lot's of them on a project like this!

Yeah but I rebuilt the motor and am going to ride it on the street this year. Parts are stupid cheap for those bikes to rebuild the motor.
