Total Miles from Thursday the 8th to Sunday the 11th: 550 miles
Went up through St. Jay and picked up 302 Littleton NH that brought me right into North Windham, Maine, where my bro lives (he graduated from College on Sat, hence my trip).
Rt.2 wasn't any worse than usual and heading up into Crawford Notch was awesome! However, I foolishly decided to head directly through N. Conway-don't ever do that-go around.
I will refrain form making any negative comments about riding a sport bike in Maine...
My father and I gave cute college girls motorcycle rides at the Graduation Party and I got a tour of Portland by my friend Kelly.
She needed a helmet so we stopped by Moto Milano and that place is sick!
I never thought I would find a Ducati Dealer in Maine, but right in N.Windham, all up in your face. They have some very nice bikes, including the Fila race rep 999S and a 999R...wicked nice guys too.
I went home through the Kangamangus, and that was good too...till I was going 65 in a 40 thinking I was in a 50 mph zone ...this is the part of the trip where I meet Officer "Nikon" of NESR (BUY HIS BIKE)...I saw the cruiser, gently applied front brake, and he went by, I checked the speedo, "65 in a 50 is fine," I say to myself. I continue on. Bout a mile and a half down the road I adopt a more relaxed riding posture and when I reach back do a random check of my tail bag, I catch some blue lights in my periph, thus demanding a double take, and whaddya know...SHIT!
It was funny when a late model Chevy Tracker went by us chatting and started honking the horn, fist pumping and screaming...
Nikon: "You pass that guy?"
Me: "Uh, I don't know, might have."
Nikon: "Really..."
Me: "Yea, I did pass that Honda Odyssey, but truly cannot remember the Tracker."
The written warning was great, but the wisdom imparted to me was much more appreciated (and the fact that he didn't arrest me).
Lots of moose and turkey out and about in the White Mountains peeps, and the road is still sandy (hairpin) and ugly lookin...I was def. pushing it in the straits and sweepers too hard, kinda lost my head for about 7 miles and Nikon brought me back to where I needed to be, and I kept the speed under control all the way home.
You never know what could happen, and nothing out of the ordinary did, but that talk is in the memory, section of Life Savers...so thanks Nikon.
Now, coming up 113 is nice, but the back side is WICKED rough, still tons of sand, and the animal hazards to boot. Glad I was behind some slow traffic.
Stopped at Mr. Z's in Barre for some food, they have very good sweet potato fries, and got home in Monkton, VT at 4:30.
Great trip, its all good till you get into Maine...straight ,ugly, roads and drivers that obey the posted speed to the # make it mind numbing. The weather however was great and I am glad I didn't have to ride in the rain.
All in all, great trip, no issues, and check out my review of the Cortech Sport Tail Bag.
Keep it rubber side down ya'll, and I love all of NE, so no hard feelings...
