The S10 is supposed to ride very well. We'll see when people start getting them here. The terrain in Australia is a lot different than NE USA.

As far as looks go, here is a comprehensive list of the good-looking adventure touring bikes:

    But they have nice personalities.

Yeah, I know, I've been waiting for the XC, but the road-biased model would be really nice too for twisty-road touring. Triumph should make the cast wheelset available for the XC as an accessory.

I'm sure Lester would be happy to take a Sprint ST as a trade-in.

    Re: Triumph Adventure

Not sure yet on price, but rumor has it it'll be in the same neighborhood as the Street Triple R. Ie, around $10k for the road version, a little more for the XC.

Jesus, you too? Everyone seems to be hung up on this.

Form follows function. No one complains about 250cc dirtbikes all looking nearly identical. I'm not sure why the 800cc dirt-oriented ADV category should be any different.

Definitely not hung up on it. Of course it doesn't matter that they look similar, it's just a little striking how similar some of the features are. It's a bit like convergent evolution; arriving at a similar form through different means. Then again, to me a ZX-6R looks like an R6 looks like a CBR600. I think all bikes in their "niche" wind up looking very similar to one another. I'd still take the Triumph over the Bimmer any day, but it desperately needs a black-powdered frame like its doppelganger.

Exactly. In order to achieve a certain level of handling and performance, the bike needs to adopt a certain geometry, frame stiffness, centralization of mass, and weight; this in turn dictates the overall look of the bike. Again, form follows function. Differences are necessarily superficial -- such as the Triumph's symmetrical headlight versus the Beemer's one, or the Triumph's exposed subframe versus the Beemer's side covers. It looks like the Triumph's tail rack is a little longer too, offering more luggage-carrying room.

I'd still take the Triumph over the Bimmer any day, but it desperately needs a black-powdered frame like its doppelganger.
I actually kind of like the silver one. But then I also don't think it's a particularly ugly frame.

I'm looking forward to seeing one in person.

    Re: Triumph Adventure

Anyone have any info on the new Honda 800cc Adventure bike due to be introduced next week?

"This mid-range machine is an exciting new approach – a crossover machine that represents the best aspects of two separate biking genres. It will have the flexibility and exciting attitude of a Naked performance machine, with the more comfortable upright riding position and design cues inspired by adventure bikes.

"With the low centre of gravity of a performance bike it is great fun to ride, and because of its wide handlebars and upright riding position it is both easy to manoeuvre and comfortable."

It takes "design cues" from adventure bikes, but little else. Definitely won't be seriously off-road capable. Probably more like a mini-VFR1200 sport-toury thing.

Yes, it's going to be a boring, overpriced piece of pointlessness, like all modern Hondas.

But seriously... Honda released a sketch of it last week. It's fully-faired. It's simply a sport-touring bike with upright seating. Not an adventure bike by any stretch of the imagination. Besides which, it's Honda -- they probably won't even bring it to the US.

Like that nt 700 thing? Sounds terribly mediocre. Gimme something that's awesome at everything. I don't care what it says on the gas tank.
