Right now I'm waiting for the tall saddle, which is 35mm (about 1.5") higher. I also bought a used set of black powdercoated TRAX bags on eBay. Once they arrive I'll sell off the stock bags.
+1. Seems like you're setting up the Tiger like an adventure tourer... which is what you have the 'strom setup as.
Do the factory bags suck or something?
Lots of people like the factory bags, which use the same key as the ignition, are very water-tight, have replaceable outer skins and can be quickly removed and carried as luggage.

For a number of reasons I prefer metal top-openers and the TRAX are what is available for this bike. This is not being set up as an "Adventure Touring" bike but having bags give you a lot of options.

Lots of other people like the aluminum top-opening buckets too. They range in price from a couple hunert bucks to over $2,000 for a pair of Touratecs.
I've got the Triumph side-opening plastic/aluminum on my 800, and like the very much. The left side does fit a large full-coverage helmet, and I sometime ride around with them on the bike just to have a place to stow my jacket & lid while I have lunch. When I went to the Bennington Bash I found I have a Travelpro soft bag that fits inside the left one PERFECT. It cost 1/2 what the Triumph inner bags cost and probably fits better.
So what about the top loader bags is it that you like? Just curious. For a road bike I really like the integrated look of the stock bags on the bike, and they look generously sized.
Sounds pretty darned good to me. I'd be willing to trade the top load of my givi's for having them keyed with the bike.
But as with everything, YMMV.
The Trax bags do look to be damned nice cases. I will probably never go back to not having cases on a bike. Love the utility of having storage like that on a bike. The 21L Givi E21's are a nice balance between function and form for my needs. Although having bigger bags better integrated with the bike (ie those Triumph bags) would not offend me.
As I am sure you know, Suzuki's V-Strom bags blow.
One of the reason that I personally prefer the Triumph bags is because they worked hard to make the brackets not-so-noticeable when the bags aren't being used. That's something which appealed to me, having little hardware remaining when the bags are off the bike. Did the Trax bags come with all the brackets and hardware for a Tiger 1050? Are the ones you got also black?

That is one heckuva used bike!
There were some scratches on one of the factory bag covers, and some surface rust on some screws from sitting under a cover, but almost everyone who has seen it thus far has assumed it's a new bike.

Could you explain to me in detail what suspension work you are having done, please?
My front forks started leaking (2009 1050 +15k miles) and I must get them rebuilt soon so I don't miss the whole season and I am not sure of my options.
You briefly mentioned it in the other thread but I never got a reply from them.
Did they give you an estimate for the work?
The SecondWind wants $255 but I assume that does not include different springs or upscale innards.

So far I have made the following changes.
handlebar extension
changed suspension plates to lower back 1"
lowered front fork 22mm
replaced stock plugs with iridium plugs
installed palmer adjustable wind screen bracket (helps a bit with wind noise)
I purchased a mosfet regulator kit to replace the pos shunt regulator but haven't installed it yet (it's on the list)
I use a YTZ14S for a battery.The stock replacement battery is pathetic and the ABS is extremely sensitive to low voltage.
I need the throttle adjusted and synced.
I need the valves adjusted.
both are just outside my comfort zone...for now

He put in Racetech cartridge inserts on the SV, but Penske now makes their own line of fork products. I understand working on "upside down" forks is more difficult, but have never delved into it. I did the V-Strom and HD Sportster myself but those are typical Showa damper-rod forks. Stiffer springs on both ends will be another part of it.
BTW, I discovered that not many people have a 22mm hex to remove the front axle. A 22mm hex socket is usually 3/4" drive. Some BMW's are also 22mm, don't know what else.

Took it to work today, up Route 1 N of Boston, which has a bunch of rough pavement patches, manholes, concrete/Macadam transitions, bridge expansion joints, etc.
It's unfuckingbelievable. And I didn't realize how much the front end sagged under braking until now - dramatic improvement.
You mentioned higher rate springs...
if you don't mind me asking, how much do you weigh and what rate are the springs?
I read somewhere that the Tigers are factory set to someone that weighs between 160 and 180.
You're right on the BWM using a 22 millimeter. I made one out of a Bolt and double nutted it.
I used a threaded coupler, then just use a regular socket to turn it. Cost about $2.
