Picked up a 2004 XB9s this weekend...
Looking forward to using it as a short stint/commuter bike, has 2100 miles on it, and I bought it from the original female owner.
Hoping to swap out seat for something with a bit of a bolster to keep me in place, and a slip-on or full exhaust.
The original tank and fairing bits are transparent blue so I wouldn't mind painting or replacing those.
Pics to follow.
nice, congrats, fun bike to thump around on + super simple to keep maintained.
there are a few seats you can swap, scope BadWeatherBikers.com, BuellXB.com or BuelletinBoard.com for used stuff. also check out Drummer Racing Products for a pipe, they sound and perform great. kdfab.com

I have a edelbrock can, same as the original latus for those bikes if you're interested. I wish I still had mine...and had never brought it to nhms. It's a real fun streetbike.

The xb9s is a fun bike to cruise around on.
They only suck in city traffic.
Welcome to the madness. I'll highly doubt I'll ever get rid of mine.

Always loved the XB bikes, even with the crazy looking plastics.

It's not a tank....its the airbox cover
Super easy to work on those. Read up, there's some sort of white wire mod or something. No spacers for the wheels either.
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

The white wire thing is so both headlights are on with the high beam, if I remember correct.
They are pretty simple to work on. The wiring harnesses will give you monumental headaches. I recommend taking the seat off and beefing up the tape job before it starts to chafe too badly. I'll think of a ton more tidbits as I go...

White wire mod is for European bikes.
Don't take it to the track, They blow up...don't put N2o on it, again, they will blow up...and don't let me see you on it. I will only make fun of you
Seriously, If you need any information, hit me up. I may know my way around these big, heavy, slow bikes.
Congrats, they are fun as hell on the streets
VT, it's the city X, so it has the see-through blue (which I will probably change).
VT - pics soon!
Thanks - I will take that suggestion and check it out - I hate chasing shorted wires around - have had 2 vehicles to troubleshoot this spring already.
When I come back to the track I'll be looking for 13's or on a tard... So don't think the Buell will be a part of that
Looking forward to it on the street, and may do some trackdays with it just to geet to know it a bit better.
hahaa, and the oil is in the swingarm![]()

quick sketch below to show some detail. weird bikes
you can see how that cutout in the frame draws in air which is directed up into that inner airbox. some mods can be done to open up the flow. there is a snorkel in there and later years Buell redesigned the inner box with cutouts. K&N or UNI (my preference) filters were used as well.
other popular mods were the Race ECM maps (fuel and timing) and some other tricks you can apply directly to the ECM to smooth idle, cure popping, etc. i may still have a bunch of that stuff but you would need ECMSpy and a cable to 'talk' to the ECM.
model wise, the CityX was just a recolored XB 9 with some accessories like the handguards.
some things to check off the top of my head... condition of your pulleys (sprockets) for rock chips, condition of the belt, condition of the front isolator (motor mount), TPS setting and idle at ~1050RPM.
