    looking to get new tires

Had those on my 954. Good all around tire. The fronts developed a pretty bad scallop that is typical of the Pilot Sports. They get a touch greasy after 4 or 5 laps at the track and my suspension was as dialed in as well as it could be for factory stuff. I would go with the Pilot Powers based on the opinions of everyone I know who has tried them. I am currently running Metzler M-1's and Have to say they are quite an improvement over the Pilot Sports.

    looking to get new tires

I have the pilot roads and have had excellent results with mild to semi-agressive street riding. Great wear, in fact I may be able to get another season out of them. I can see them going away very quickly on a track though...

Stay away from the Tomahawk tires!!!!!!!!!!! Friend of mine tried them (the black ones, not the bling/color ones) and at 130mph a 8"x4" section of the tread delaminated on him. They are retreads. I'm going to try the Powers after I run through the M-1's. Guess I'll have to wait till next season

The Pilot Sport is no longer in production. Michelin France stopped producing them in May.

It has been replaced by the Pilot Power. A VERY different and a much better tire all-around.

I had a set that Brian Kent put 70 laps on at the last LRRS weekend. They looked just broken in. He RAVED about them. Those tires are now back at Michelin USA for a show-n-tell.

I just cannot say enough glowing things about them. And I can glow!

The Pilot Road is NOT a track tire.

The properties that make it such a wonderfull all-weather tire ( including a rapid warm-up) will fry it at a track day with an aggressive rider.

just one more thing. said ".. derived from MotoGP... handling and high speed stability.." i dont see the number rating but what is the speed rating on them? has to be able to handle over 160mph because the stock Dunlop D218 is good for that.

The Power will handle the Hayabusa. Michelin is not producing a "HPX" version like the Sport had. The current Power casing can handle the speed of the big Suzuki.

The rating is ZR. Just like the D218.

    looking to get new tires

    I have the Powers.

After riding them for a weekend, I wrote this to friends that I ride with...

Ah, to dig deep and extricate the mere words that would bring the true feeling of riding on Powers to life. There are those that ridden fast, and those that have ridden smooth, but alas, I have ridden the Power. To initiate a turn is but to incline your head in that direction. To understand the massiveness of the confidence-inspiring grip is to understand that one cannot open the jaw of an alligator. The ability to corner the Power right to the edge, without hesitation, tentativeness or survival reactions throbbing through your system leaves you in awe. And with still less than 200 miles on them, the heady rush of such sweetness runs fresh in my adrenaline filled blood stream. To ride the Power, is to have the Power.

Bad Prose aside, I ran a track day on them, and they worked perfectly. (On a 954) The only potential negative I see is that if someone were to get sucked in by the cornering confidence that these tires provide you with, the rider might well push it beyond their own skill level.

These tires are the only choice for me, and I happily paid retail for them. (Well, if you consider online retail)

    Peter.

If you got 10,000 miles out of a set of sport tires, I would mount them on the mantle above the fireplace!

    And two track days???

There has to be some cord coming thorugh by now...

Tire wear is always dictated by the bike, rider and enviorment. The Road is a very common fitment for BMW. I'm seeing an average of 5-7000 miles on most.

Keep up on tire pressure, and just ride them.

    looking to get new tires

I am hard but never see 4000 on a set of tires

    back tire burnt
    front tire cupped to sh*t

Even road tires are only about 20 % more than sport tires
