    Upcoming storm and parking outside

With this upcoming storm, I was curious what the best way to secure the bike outdoors would be. My bike lives outside in a parking lot, under a cover. I've heard stories of covers turning into sails in high winds and knocking bikes over, and I don't want that to happen to mine. Should I just cover the bike, and then tie the cover as tight as I can to it? I won't be home for the next week, so once I leave tomorrow, it'll be at the mercy of the weather.

You can't hangar it for the night? Or perhaps the garage in Portsmouth?

Re: Upcoming storm and parking outside

I'm fairly new to the area so I only personally know one person with a garage, but he's gone for the week as well. My other buddies all live in apartments too, so no garages. I wish I could throw it in the Hangar at work, but they don't allow that unfortunately.

    Which garage in Portsmouth?

I had a random idea - can you find a place to park the bike that has hooks in the ground?

tie it down with some ratcheting tie downs the way bikes are secured in a truck

Pull the cover down tight as best you can. Get it as close to a building as possible to break the wind gusts.

Kick the bike over on an old mattress and call it good. Or, call a local bike shop to ask if they will rent you space for a week. You could also get some scheduled maintenance done on the bike while you're gone and maybe they will hold till you return.

Same here plenty of garage storage space if you want. Peabody Ma.
I can fit a few bikes no problem if any one else is stuck outside and nervous.
    Happy to help out.

if i didn't have a choice, but it looks like you do, lots of people stepping up, i would do it sans cover. as long as it doesn't tip over the winds shouldn't hurt anything. they get ridden and trailered faster than the winds. same reason i don't trailer with a cover, the cover itself can cause damage.

Re: Upcoming storm and parking outside

Wow!!! Thanks for all the offers guys! I feel like an idiot because I literally just thought of this today so now I'm scrambling. I don't think I'd be able to make a multi-hour commute tonight, but I've been calling local shops to see if they do storage. Looks like it'll be around $40 for the week to keep it at a local dealer in Somersworth.

Honestly, I had already thought of this, but I'm sure my landlord wouldn't appreciate me drilling hooks into the ground haha

The big municipal one downtown. Parking is relatively affordable there.

A 5x10 storage locker would do you well too.

Re: Upcoming storm and parking outside

Again, thanks for the generosity guys! Really an awesome community here. Due to the short notice (my own fault), I ended up bringing it to a local dealer for the week. If I was going to be home during, I'd just let it ride out the storm. Since I'll be gone though, should something happen, I wouldn't discover it for at least 2 or 3 days. I'd hate to show up and find my bike on it's side, and know it's been like that for a few days. Thanks again though, you guys are awesome!

Re: Upcoming storm and parking outside

I was going to suggest a few sand bags to anchor a strap or two over the top.

You can buy a 60 lb bag of "tube sand" at a big box store for $4-5 each and that bike isn't going anywhere.

If any of you are near Boston, we took out a pool and there was a bunch of beach sand underneath it. So I have 50 50 lbs bags of fine sand available, free....Good for pools, barricading your house for TEOTWAWKI, etc.
