Using OEM pedals with Woodcraft rearsets

I'm up too late staring at pages and pages of rearsets, again. Am wondering what the disadvantages are of using OEM brake/shift pedals with a set of Woodcrafts... would save about $150 instead of buying the full kit that comes with pedals but would like some feedback... Am still planning on switching to GP shift as well....

None that I can think of... except you need to bring your own spares...

I'm going to venture a guess that you're running the risk of experiencing some fitting issues seeing how the Woocraft rearsets are taylor-made for Woodcraft components whereas you *may* have to modify something on your OEM parts or even the rearsets in order to get the Woodcrafts to work.

    All just a guess.

    Yamaha R6 99-02 Rearsets - GP Shift (05-0442)

"The basic rearset kit consists of the rearset plates, footpegs and all of the needed hardware (shift rods, etc) to install the kit properly. These kits assume that you currently have the OEM rearsets on your bike, and utilize the OEM shift and brake pedals. They are made from tough, aircraft grade 6061 T6 Aluminum. They are much stronger than OEM brackets and will give your bike a look that will separate you from the crowd. Each kit is individually designed for your model of motorcycle to give you the optimum foot position and ground clearance for racing. Most kits are upgradeable at any time to accept the 3 piece billet shift and brake pedals.
    "

From the Woodcraft website.... but yeah, wondering if fit would be less than ideal and affect performance?

Well quite honestly, I've never heard of any qualms regarding Woodcraft products other than Chuck's thing with the absent heelguard on the right side of his CBR1000.

I'm sure the 'sets you're looking into will work just fine but, in my absolute humblest of opinions, the risk is being run that you might be tweaking things to get it perfect. It generally comes with the territory of aftermarket products.

Funny timing this as I'm currently up late working on the 2010 Woodcraft Catalog..

I had this conversation with Eric last week when we were going through the 2009 catalog as the Rearsets section is GOING TO MAKE ME GO NUTS!! (so many parts, pieces, and numbers to put in 3-4 pages..)

Anyway the topic of using OEM pedals with Woodcraft rearsets and Eric designed the Woodcraft rearsets (that are able to utilize OEM pedals) to work just fine with the OEM bits and have been designed to do so. It's only been in the last few years that he's started designing full kits that include Woodcraft pedals (as bike controls have changed).

I even suggested maybe slowing phasing out the 'OEM pedal' option if it's becoming less design relevant but I got a big fat NO from both Eric and his Mom (who works at Woodcraft as well). Apparently many people still buy the rearsets with the intent of using the OEM pedals and it adds a cheaper price-point for folks (which is good)

So that's a long-winded way of saying 'yes your OEM pedals should work fine' and if you have any concerns just give them a ring at (looks down at page) 978-297-2977.

Re: Using OEM pedals with Woodcraft rearsets

My EX500 race bike used woodcraft rearsets and the OEM shifter and brake lever. No issues that I recall.
