    Best Value Used Sport Bike

I'm going to start looking for something a bit newer and more presentable to replace my aging FZR. What do y'all think is the best value used sport bike? I think sporty standards and sport-tourers should be included in this discussion.

    SV650, hands down.

Took me 8 years to finally own one. Haven't even ridden it yet and I'm still glad I got it.

svs are dirt cheap and a ton of fun. ive got an 06 that ive used and abused since '09. as much as i want a new bike i just cant let this one go.

the ninja 650 is similar but after looking at the compared to the sv i hated it. although the '12 one is looking good. i just hated the handle bars.

If going with an SV650, I'd recommend the 650n naked model. The 650S model still has a pretty aggressive seating position, despite it not being a race rep.

So many great options out there, and now is the time to buy. FZ 1s can be had pretty cheap.

    SV.

Had an 02 SV650S back in 2004. Sold that in 2006. Now I am back on a 2000 SV650N as of last year. Best bike I have owned. Ton of fun and very comfortable.

Re: Best Value Used Sport Bike

After having ridden both the SV650 and owning a 650r, I like the handlebars on the 650r and I also noticed it to be a bit more torquey on the lower end. They really are more or less the same bike though.

I also love the OEM frame sliders for the 650r. They're the size of your fist and saved me LOTS of damage in 2 lowsides.

I got an fz6, wouldn't mind getting an fz1 but at the time it wasn't in the budget and I got a great price on the fz6

How are those (Speed Triple and Aprilia) a good value? Great bikes, yes, but not really a value.

Although I've never owned one I'm a big fan on the FZ1 and FZ6. They are comfortable and have all the power, suspension, and brakes just about anyone would use on the street. The 1200 bandit as mentioned are everywhere but if I wanted something like that I would check out the Kawasaki ZRX1200r or zrx1100r.

Also check out Ducati Monsters. They have a certain special appeal and are a great do every street bike.

Do you have a price point you'd like to keep it under? That might help

A value is in the eyes of the beholder... They could be several years old too...

Had a GSF1200K. Wicked fun for the money. Wonder if it really qualifies as a 'sport' bike.

Then again, one man's sport bike is another mans sport-tourer is another mans adventure bike is another mans standard, right?

Pretty much any Japanese inline 4 cylinder sport bike is going to be hard to beat for value. They are very common, offer the best performance for the money, and last forever. Best bet is to look for one that's all stock, has lots of miles (to keep the price down), and is well maintained. "One-owner, adult-owned" is a huge plus, IMO.

Another vote for the Bandit here.

I picked up a 2003 Bandit 600s, with 9k on the clock, in Spring (when bikes sell for top dollar)!

    ^All that for 2 Grand!

I'd say performance, practicality and reliability measured against cost. I'm really torn on the performance vs practicality/comfort issue here. I commute 25 miles to work, and semi-regularly ride 2 hours to my hometown in CT to meet friends for even longer rides. I also get a serious boner for supersports, however. I'm not sure if I'd be happier riding in comfort on a less exciting bike or riding in moderate discomfort on a machine that makes me feel like a badass.

An example of this problem: I bought a GTI with the DSG (auto transmission), thinking it would be less fun but infinitely more tolerable when crawling in commuter traffic. I now regret this decision, but I'm fairly sure I would feel the same way had I gone with the manual. The grass is always greener on the other side.

I paid $2400 for a nice 5th gen VFR 800 (non-VTEC). Pretty hard to argue with what it does for that price...
