Not sure if this relates to motorcycles or not but I just had a valve stem fail on my daughters Civic and cussed her out for destroying the tire after driving on a totally flat tire. Turns out the valve stem had developed a crack which very quickly flatted the tire. Turns out there is a valve stem recall for replacement stems distributed by Tech international, an Ohio based distributor of Chinese made parts. Turns out some dude in a Ford Explorer died when his valve stem, manufactured by TOPSEAL, a subsidiary of Shanghai Baolong Dill Air Control Products,LLc cracked leading to immediate total air loss, allegedly causing said Explorer to lose control and roll over.
Articles on the web can be found googling "valve stem recall"
Valve stems were made from july-november 2006
Tires on my Civic were replaced in november 2006 and tomorrow I'm going to visit the dealer to have the defective stem checked out , as well as the other 3 tires(stems)
I wonder if anybody out there has experienced this failure. I also hope that these stems are not used on motorcycle tires.
