Thinking of getting "SHREK" for my pearl lime green 2001 ZX9R. The color is damn near the same as Shrek and the movie is a riot. Wondering just how cheesy that would be... I know my kids would love it and my wife really like the idea so you can see why I'm questioning the idea.

That is a downside to being vain.

    SLOW?

    Ouch, tough crowd.

Only drawback I can see would be everyone calling YOU Shrek.

    Speaking of plates...

Not that I would condone doing anything like this , but an old friend of mine used to spray a little chain lube on his plate, then toss some sand at it. He would then take and wipe the letters off a little bit, just to make it look like there had been an attempt at cleaning the plate off. Hmmm, I wonder if he has been sculking around that back of my VFR lately?

Also, a cop friend told me that they would do ride throughs at local pubs/hangouts and look over the vehicles and vanity plates so that they could spot them later on the road. Something to consider.

Good idea but it would be silly for me to spend extra money on a plate that I would hide with dirt. No one would see it and enjoy my exquisite wit and generally top-shelf sense of humor.

Ohhh, I know what I can do, I can have "Shrek" embroidered on the back of my stitch, just below my "Randy Rhodes lives!" banner.

This would never be a problem for me. I refuse to drink and ride. Do most of my drinking at home, alone, in the dark, with all my friends.

I've never been concerned with initial plates and the PO-lice, and I've had 'em on EVERY vehicle I've ever owned. And I shouldn't hafta tell anyone here that I'm no angel...

For years I had 'STONR' on my streetbikes (NH only allows 5 characters on m/c), and never had an issue with it; I have 'SHKDWN' on my p/u; my dad has 'IM469' on his p/u truck; my mom has 'STONER' on her Cherokee; and they have 'STONNER' on their 'Vette. Now if that's not ASKING for trouble, I don't know what is. But like I said, it's never been an issue...

Oh, and for our company vehicles we have 'SPEEDY' and 'SRSPDY'. Again, on the outset it'd appear we're asking for it. But they've never been an issue either...

Go with whatchya like. Doesn't matter how we feel. Hell! Like JC said, we've BOTH got 'NESR' on our bikes (NH & MA). Now if that's not cheesy as hell, what is?

I had FLUBIU (FLew By You) on my RX-7 and that was a full out numbered up SCCA ITS car that I would driveon the street and only had a few pull overs. COps just wanting to see what the story was.. Either poser or serious. Once they knew I could out drive them any time I wanted and still pulled over because it was the right thing to do they stopped harassing me.

although I haven't had vanity plates in several years, when I did have them, I never had any problems with johnny law, nor did I ever have a problem when I used to run my cage with an "arrive stoned" plate on the front that many peeps advised against. don't have that plate anymore, somebody stole it off my cage

For those of you who have vanity plates in NH, is it correct that you pay an extra $30/year to have the vanity plate? That is mainly why I do not have one, if that is indeed true. If it were just an initial $30, then okay, but why does the state feel it necessary to charge the plate fee each year - they only make it once! The principle of it is what bothered me most, the state just using vanity plates as another revenue device....

I think it's $40, not $30 but that is cheap compared to most states, some states if you have any kind of criminal record, you can't even get them.

And just how many states are you wanted in?

Are vanity plates considered a privelage?

Honestly, I don't know what the charge is. But they DO get you. There's actually TWO combined charges: one for the plate itself, and one for the 'priveledge' of them 'allowing' you to have one. But yeah, the principle behind it is lame...

As far as I know, I'm wanted everywhere but not for criminal reasons

I was told once that in NY, you can't have a criminal record, and they cost $500
