I saw this and immediately wondered if it would make me regret my V-Strom purchase. I think I'd rather have the Africa Twin than this though.

It's all momentum. Don't slow down. And once it's a 500lb machine (guessing) it'll continue to go whichever way it was pointing before the snot.

Re: VFR1200X Honda's Bog Boy adventure bike?

See, this is the Honda I used to like.

Seems like an answer to the more sport/tourer oriented end of the ADV market. More out there with the Multi and S1000XR than the GS/1190 ADV end, where the new Africa Twin fits. Great that there is one more manufacturer playing in both ends of that pool at the same time. Better than the approach Suzuki and even KTM have of hitting only one end of the spectrum.

129HP / 92.9ft-lb. x 608.5lbs wet. Not stunning, but not horrible for their target demographic either.

Don't hate on the ad. What they show is exactly the extent of "off-roading" their target demographic wants, maybe more than most want. It's a street bike with a little extra suspension and the upright ergos. Don't expect more.

Not really my bag; I too want the more dual-sport oriented AT. Damned close though. I'm glad Honda is bringing it stateside.

Does need more exhaust note. We all know the V4 engine can do it. Let us have it. I guess we have to go aftermarket these days. Thanks Obama.

    Anyone seen a hint at MSRP? I'm guessing $15-16k. (VFR1200 MSRP'ed @ $16k.)

It's going to be in Super Tenere' / Triumph Explorer / BMW GS1250 price realm, I'd suspect.

Website says MSRP: TBD. Nor is weight listed. Shaft drive 1200's are big girls.

Re: VFR1200X Honda's Big Boy adventure bike?

Realistically bikes like these can do some fire roads, maybe some light trails, but obviously are too big for serious trail riding. Hell even my DR650 got heavy after picking it up all day.

It's a shame the only performance oriented true dual sport is the KTM 690 Enduro R (and the 701 in Husqvarna trim).

I wish Yamaha would take their Raptor 660 motor and put it in a dual sport frame so that there'd be some competition for KTM because at $11,000 they're the only game in town.

Re: VFR1200X Honda's Big Boy adventure bike?

Sat on the VFR1200X at IMS last week. They had it right next to the Africa Twin I'm hot for. I like the AT better. The VFR feels a touch heavier and a touch more top heavy. But the same fit, finish and so forth.

Damned nice looking machine. Hope it sells well for Honda.

I'd be more interested in the VFR800X if they brought that over here.
