    Vortex Rearset Opinions

Looking at getting rearsets for my FZ8. Woodcraft doesnt make any for my bike so it looks like I'm between Sato and Vortex. Sato's rearsets place the shifting rod on the outside of the frame. I don't really like the look of it, plus it seems more exposed in a crash.

I like the look of the Vortex rearsets and the price. Their shiftrod goes through the front sprocket gaurd. You just cut a little box out for it.

I have zero experience with aftermarket rearsets. Any thoughts on Vortex's stuff?

Have you asked Woodcraft if they're working on it?

They make them for the FZ07 and FZ09. My guess is there wasnt enough demand for the FZ8. The redheaded stepchild of the FZ lineup.

I wouldn't count it out. Give them a call and ask - even if it isn't on the lineup, they've been known to make stuff based on demand.

I actually called yesterday afternoon. They pretty much said theres no demand for fz8 rearsets so it wouldnt be cost affective to make them. Too bad, I heard great stuff about them and wanted to give them a shot.

Vortex makes nice stuff. Lots of guys run their gear at the track, if you like the setup better than the Sato's go for it.

This reminds me of a Ductard thread.

I have vortex, I like them, they're almost TOOO grippy for my liking though (especially if you whack your shin on them), but I would guess spares would be far more easily obtained than Sato.

You could always replace the pegs with bananas.

Then put Rotella on the pegs. They will be less grippy.

Doesn't matter, Jesus himself refined all Rotella oil.

As long as you put twice as much on it doesn't matter.

I heard once that Vortex's metallurgy consisted of alloys of cream cheese and chocolate, however they may have improved, that was over a decade ago

    Re: Vortex Rearset Opinions

Vortex makes great products. The pegs are extremely sharp and grippy. If you're wearing race boots you'll be fine, but they shred sneakers or anything with a rubber sole. A little tip is to wrap the grooves with small zip ties.
